Jeez, can't believe how fucking nasty some people are on here. THATS depressing.

KayHarker · 16/02/2009 21:27

You know, now I've stopped giggling at the rest of the madness in AIBU tonight, I've got to say, I'm not really sure about this one.

I don't mind wolf-whistling so much, it's fairly non-specific, and usually just indicates you've turned a head, which is something I'd be secretly chuffed about, sure.

But 'MILF' is a much more loaded thing. Largely because the meaning is generally 'an older woman who looks like she'd be up for it.' Which is actually not all that nice, as compliments go.

So, I get why you would be chuffed, but I think I'd personally be quite deflated after I thought about it for a bit.

WinkyWinkola · 16/02/2009 21:30

So being ugly means you have no self respect? Now THAT's depressing.

wotulookinat · 16/02/2009 21:36

Yes, Winky, for me it does. I have learnt to live with it. Sorry if it depresses you.

WinkyWinkola · 16/02/2009 21:38

Well, it's certainly not necessarily an automatic pairing. Look at Jeremy Clarkson.

Rammit · 16/02/2009 21:44

No one should look at Jeremy Clarkson.

RiaParkinson · 16/02/2009 21:49

kayharker

why the differential?

its all the same?
an annonymous valentines card - the same?

culturally specific difference

nothing to get knockers in a twist about surely

why is everyone getting so holier than thou?

MrsDanversAteMyIpod · 16/02/2009 21:51

Yanbu

It may be true that a lot of teenage boys would fuck anything but I don't think that they would admit that to or in front of a group of their mates. Therefore LMLT must be quite glam & sexy to have that shouted out to her! I'm not suprised it gave her a little lift tbh, it's natural

Underneath the feminism and pc comments I think there are a few green faces on here

It's just the same as a wolf-whistle anyway. What do you think men are thinking when they whistle at you, I bet it's not I'd love to sit her down and have a meaningful conversation about life, pmsl.

LoveMyLapTop · 16/02/2009 21:52

I would just like to point out
that I started this thread in good humour and have taken your PoV in good humour
I am sad that it has been implied that I am ugly, desparate and common - by people who purport themselves to be feminists.
'Sisterhood'?
Or just good old MN bitchery?

RiaParkinson · 16/02/2009 21:55

lovemylaptop i agree

mrsDanvers well put and great name

cornsilk · 16/02/2009 21:58

I didn't say that you were any of those things LMLT. As I have ds's it makes me cringe to think of teenage boys shouting 'MILF' at someone in the street.

MrsDanversAteMyIpod · 16/02/2009 22:00

What if they wolf-whistled CS would that bother you?

LoveMyLapTop · 16/02/2009 22:01

I know csilk
I respect your opinion
I dont expect everyone to agree with me
( Iwouldnt have posted on AIBU !)
Personal attacks are uncalled for thats all.
I might not be as intellectual as some posters but I am not as rude either.

Thanks RP, just noticed your post !

Blu · 16/02/2009 22:04

I agree with Cornsilk - whatever anyone does or does not feel as a result, I can't feel positive about young men shouting about fucking people in the street.

It's about their behaviour, not anyone's response.

cornsilk · 16/02/2009 22:05

I wouldn't be impressed with the wolf-whistling either Mrs Danvers.

daftpunk · 16/02/2009 22:06

exactly blu...it's degrading for everyone concerned.

Who said I was holier than thou? I haven't called anyone names, I just offered an honest opinion.

As it happens, I wouldn't really want to be wolf-whistled at either, but I understand the lift it can give - I used to go all out for it when I was younger.

MILF just has definitely nastier connotations, ime.

MrsDanversAteMyIpod · 16/02/2009 22:07

fair enough cs

LoveMyLapTop · 16/02/2009 22:08

I havent called anyone any names
I have been called despaate and common

OP posts:
cornsilk · 16/02/2009 22:09

Well that shouldn't have happened LMLT.

KayHarker · 16/02/2009 22:09

I've had teenage boys open doors for me, which gives me a much bigger lift, in all honesty.

SixSpot · 16/02/2009 22:10

Don't like it. Nothing to do with being . I hated being wolf-whistled at when I was younger too.

It's all to do with ownership and rights over public space isn't it? It's okay for men (and for these purposes, I am including your adolescents too) to do this - somehow they have the right. That makes me angry.

Thought Turq's post very good.
