Leaving kids at home!!!

Do you think it is ia fair to leave kids with the grand-parents all the time and never take them on holiday?

I do not think it is, but every one has an opinion, and is entitled to it.

I think ideally it's nice to have a family holiday all together which is especially geared towards the children. But I also think its important for the parents to have time away from the children as a couple. Unfortunately lots of people cant afford 2 holidays...I cant even afford one!

What are parents doing? If everyone's with the GPs, then fine; if the parents are always holidaying alone then not fine.

I can only speak for my family and it wouldn't be right for me or my kids.

Finance is a major problem I know.

you would think people who could afford to take their kids on holiday would, and I think those that do not are pretty selfish.

Well this should be judged on a case by case situation, the child might need special care etc, but it is no excuse.

DH and I often go to a hotel but only for a night and ds goes to his grannies. We are having a family holiday but only in this country.

If you can afford both then why not. I wouldn't leave ds any longer than a weekend, as we miss him too much.

SOunds like a great idea to me. Dh and I would love a holiday on our own.

With us it's usually gp's taking our dd's on holiday because we can't afford to take them, last yr dd's went to greece for 2 weeks with pil and 1 week camping with us, this year pil are taking dd's on hols again but have also paid for to have a honeymoon on our own at the same time. The year before pil took dd1 on her own because dd2 was too young and then my mum took us all on a camping holiday.

We have occasionally a weekend away on our own and dd's have also had weekends away with my mum.

never had a holiday with my Dcs - but then I've never had a holiday since they were born. I get the occasional weekend away when they go to granny and granpas.

I think the nicest thing is a together family holiday that is not geared exclusively towards the children. Bring on the medieval cathedrals! And the paddles along the beach! And the strange cheeses!

But if the children can get a longer holiday by staying with grandparents, then I think that's lovely. Dh only has 2 weeks in the summer, but dcs and I get the full 6 weeks at my parents' place in the countryside.
