I know in not BU, so im just ranting!

My Mum, Sister and Nan cant spell it right, neither can the nursery I pay to look after him!

Why did I not think when I named him that people would get it wrong?

Feel alot better now

FAQinglovely · 11/02/2009 14:40

well it depends on what you've named him.........

Tamarto · 11/02/2009 14:41

People spell my kids names wrong all the time. It wouldn't bother me if they had weird spellings or made up ones but they don't

Oooo, that made me feel better

notagrannyyet · 11/02/2009 14:41

Is it Fraser?

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 11/02/2009 14:41

Your mum and sister should make an effort to learn how to spell it. But gran can be excused

You know that you will need to tell us his name so that we can determine whether you are BU?

FruitynNutty · 11/02/2009 14:42

Do you mean Fraser? That's not had to spell is it? Although could be Frazer? O are they getting it confused with Frasier?

Fraser sounds normal.

If it was Fraziere I would object

my brother never spells my surname right, tis v. annoying

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 11/02/2009 14:46

I have discovered there are also many many ways of spelling Bryonie-Rae.

Bryony-Rae
Bryonie-Ray
Briannie-Raye
Briany
Breany
Breanie

Are some we have had from crazy old people. Some of those don't even sound like Bryonie. Breany? Breany? How could that possibly be bryonie?

crabbymum · 11/02/2009 14:50

Oh this bugs me too, my son has had 4 certificates for merit at school and his surname has been spelt wrong on 3 of them.

Yes, it is Fraser.

My Mum and Nan (who is only in her 60's BTW) spell it Frazer, the Nursery spell it Frasier, and my sister insists on pronouncing it 'frasure', and somehow managed to write 'Frashier'

My name is Dinah. Fair enough, it is unusual. But when I was a child hardly anyone got it right without repeated corrections. I was addressed as Diana, Diane, Dina, Deanna or the one I really hated, Di.

I have noticed that people get it right far more often now than they did when I was a child. Not sure if this is because my reputation for being pedantic about my name precedes me, or people are much better at listening now there are so many more unusual names about.

When we chose a name for DS, we went for one which was unusual and EASY TO SPELL! (Can you tell it has scarred me for life...)

seeker · 11/02/2009 14:57

I would get Bryonie-Rae wrong, because the plant it spelled Briony and I would assume the name was spelled the same.

I have two neices, one called Katherine and one called Catherine, and I always get them muddled up. One of them - I think it's Katherine-used to get cross with me, but she now just thinks I'm old and decrepit and humours me.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 11/02/2009 14:59

Yes I can understand that one because there a fre ligitimate ways of spelling it Briony beong one of them but Breany?

bumpybecky · 11/02/2009 14:59

YABU

SSSSBTSS there's a Bryany at dd3's preschool, so that's another permutation to add to your list

SalmonintheLiffey · 11/02/2009 14:59

Fraser is a well-known sur name.

My daughter's name has various versions, spanish, French and English.

I find myself saying to people with thinly disguised heavy sarcasm, "it's spelt the english way". durr

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 11/02/2009 14:59

Fraser mum, agree it's daft as it's a fairly simple name but... Bryonie-Rae?! it's weird spelling to start with so what do you expect?

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 11/02/2009 15:02

I don't think its wierd. It was in the baby book that way and 'Briony' way. And Rae was also in there.

MorrisZapp · 11/02/2009 15:03

I've got a foreign surname and I don't expect anybody other then immediate family and close friends to be able to spell it.

Having said that, I can only assume that you're not Scottish Frasersmum, as Fraser is a common surname, first name and large department store up here!

psychomum5 · 11/02/2009 15:17

fraser seems pretty simple to me.

I grew up hating my name, and NO-ONE ever got it right (and rarely do know in fact, but I am over it now and it honestly amuses me........{well, with sometimes it amuses me}).

for that very reason I ansured that all mine have very normal names that everyone knows how to spell, and bugger me if they still get it wrong.

megan = meghan, meygan, megane

holly = hollie

natasha = natalie (altho that was only the once so I can kind of let it go)

the boys actually havent had it spelled wrong, but my aunt willl insist on shortening DS2's even tho he and I tell her that it is not HIS NAME!

so, I do feel you pain.

SexyLacyKnickersOnMaHead · 11/02/2009 15:26

I thought Fraser was spelt with an I?

Frasersmum123 · 11/02/2009 15:28

'Fraysher' is spelt Frasier

'Fray-ser' is spelt Fraser

Psychomum5 - Natasha/Natalie

An aunt of DH's always writes to Finlay rather than Fraser - he is two now and its too late to point it out, luckily we dont see her very often!
