to be such a control freak that I am vetoing dh's choice of song at his funeral (hypothetically)

You know when you have those conversations about the type of funeral you would like in theory? well dh and i had one of them and his taste in music is so rubbish I said I wouldn't have any of those songs and that he wouldn;t know anything about it anyway... and then he said I'm being unreasonable and has promised to haunt me if I don't play his songs. But they are dire and I would be embarrassed that people remembered him like that

nqc i love that tindersticks song!

i would also be delighted if i was at a funeral and the wddding present came on

i would probably pick

hmm

there is a light and it never goes out?

i have chosen my burial place but not any music
mind you am not planning to shuffle off yet

sincitylover · 06/02/2009 23:49

I have always fancied Fingers of Love by Crowded House but have not told anyone yet

LOL

that's a departure for me because I tend to like soul and hi energy dance music!!!

gallusbesom · 07/02/2009 08:21

I agree with Franny, I would love to hear The Wedding Present at a funeral! and with the Smiths too

LittleOneMum - let's run away together and leave our dhs to listen to their music that sounds like the Pub Singer.

Another fave of his is Asian Dub Foundation but can't remember which one - something about a warrior or summat... Rebel Warrior?

I quite like the idea of Yes by McAlmont & Butler but the lyrics are "yes I do feel better, yes I feel alright..." not exactly appropriate perhaps.

Hm, personally I think that the funeral isn't for the departed, it's for the bereaved. So I have almost no requests for mine - whatever it takes for them to make it through the utter devestation of losing such a wonderful wife/daughter/mum etc.

I have regular arguements with my Mum about this though. She wants a really happy upbeat funeral, and I keep pointing out to her that, actually, I'm going to be quite upset.

TsarChasm · 07/02/2009 14:28

Just looking at ScottishMummy's list re the Bereavement Register poll. 'Every Breath You Take' is about stalking someone though isn't it? Maybe it's about haunting them in this context.

My dad always says things like that - "what will I care, I won't be there" and "you'll only be all cying for yourselves - crying for me will be a waste of time because I'm not coming back no matter how hard you wail."

he's not the sentimental type! But he'll be getting "He who would valiant be" for his hymn as that's the only one he ever likes in church and sings his heart out.

We tried having the 'upbeat positive' approach for my best friend's mum who died last year... the whole place was full of teary-eyed folk trying to be brave, forcing ourselves to laugh and we all completely lost it when we'd had a few drinks and her music came on later.

I don't want to remember dh by listening to that awful dirge by tindersticks. It'd annoy me. I'd rather have the Undertones on and have a lovely good blart and a wallow.

yes sting wrote it about break up of his first marriage,so a menacing stalker's song.

surprisingly people chose it as wedding song too

Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake
Ill be watching you

i just know its a terrible day for every 1.We went with the age of my beloved uncle when we found dead.He was old but it was a shock. We had smile bye nat king carl. Its not played much now but when ever i hear that song i will remember him. Also for another loved 1 we had Celine Dione .i am every thing i am because u loved me.Prob not their choice( the deceased) but we chose them for us and we did have a bit of a debate in our family what to choose. but every word had a meaning for us all.NOT HOPING TO POP MY CLOGGS YET BUT I LOVE THOSE 2 SONGS THEY ARE SO FITTING.PERHAPS NOT FOR ALL JUST FITTING FOR THE LAST 2 FUNERALS I HAVE HAD TO ARRANGE AND GO TO.LOL.

Eve4Walle · 19/02/2009 06:44

DH wants Freebird by Lynryd Skinyrd - all 10 minutes of it. He likes it but wants it just as his last 'this'll piss you off for 10 minutes in church' jape.

glitteryb6 · 19/02/2009 21:20

i'd like something upbeat so i have told my sister that i want "you cant stop the music" by the village people and i expect everyone to perform the dance moves...well maybe not the hip thrusting at the start!
