Last 2 days has not been nice for me, looking on here it seems people have loved having their kids home and enjoyed 'making memories' etc but for me the last 2 days have completely drained me! The roads here are not brilliant but i still sent DS off in his taxi (i have assumed the taxi driver is more experienced than me and therfore safer for DS!) and DH has taken DD to playschool down some horrid icy back roads but if the staff can do it then so can we!
I need a bath and am going to get back into bed for some R and R!
So i suppose im an awful mummy!

Of course its not just you - everyone else who has had their kids at home for 2 days have not even dragged their sorry arses towards the computer yet!!

BONKERZ · 04/02/2009 09:13

Oh no, I'm SO relieved to see the backs of the little darlings this morning. I quite enjoyed the excitement of the first morning with the new snow etc but by lunchtime I'd had enough and by yesterday evening I was fit to kill them both as they bickered all day long..... off to make a nice cup of tea and relaaaxxx...

Bramshott · 04/02/2009 09:17

I heaved a huge sigh on finding out that DD1 was STILL off today . Still, I have vowed that we are going out for a walk in the snow and are not going to sit in the house winding each other up for a third day!

cory · 04/02/2009 09:18

Ha! We've got an inset day tomorrow.

cory · 04/02/2009 09:19

Sorry, wrong emoticon. Should have been through slightly gritted teeth. Of course inset days have to be.

This weird. It was only two extra days- and snow to have fun in.
It's not that heard to spend time with your children is it?

snackattack · 04/02/2009 11:39

Umm, no it's not weird.

Bramshott · 04/02/2009 11:47

Mrsruffalo - it is hard if you are trying to work at the same time, and everyone is out of routine because activities have stopped, and it's not planned (like the holidays are) so you don't have a clear set of things to do. Here we are cold, and bored, and rubbing each other up the wrong way having not left the house except to play out in the road since Saturday. DD2 (1) won't go out in the snow because it's too deep and she can't walk in it, and DD1 won't play by herself, she is desperate to see other children! Roll on back to school I say - 1 day is fun, but 3 days is too long!

BONKERZ · 04/02/2009 11:47

it is hard for me as DS has ASD and the change of routine meant he didnt know what was meant to happen, first day fine i let him get on with it , second day i structured things a bit more which is exhausting for me. Today he has gone back and apparently has not settled well at all!!! hes all confused so will take pribably a week to get over this change then it will be half term and we can confuse him even more! Oh the joys of Autism!

I still have two at home
we just ventured out to get milk and cupcakes.

Gateau · 04/02/2009 11:56

I think it's really sad that MUsm can;t have 'unplanned' fun with their kids for a couple of days. They're only young once.
Bonkerz: it's different for you givne your DS's autism.

lou33 · 04/02/2009 11:57

i'm relieved, mainly because i woke up this morning to no heating or hot water

pagwatch · 04/02/2009 11:59

BONKERZ
DS2 hassevere ASD as well. he was a little stressed. I have drawn him a schedule to try and explain when he will be going back ( tomorrow) and explaining what we are doing today.

He loved the snow though so is very happy

kaz33 · 04/02/2009 12:00

we have had 12 inches and boys didn't have right gear, eldest didn't have any wellington boots. So we did try but more fun for the adults than them

Been into town and bought some thermals and wellington boots for DS1. Though no doubt it will just pee down now

Though DH had a huge wrestle/fight with them in the garden.

Me, I've painted the hallway

MamaMaiasaura · 04/02/2009 12:03

yanbu - me i was ok with ds1 off as meant i didnt have to drag ds2 on school run. Both mon and tues they were up with the birds. This morning ds2 slept till we had to leqave and was bundled into coat. Result.. no morning nap for him (or me )and early lunchright now and hoping for lovely post lunch snooze

pluto · 04/02/2009 12:08

Dilemma 456 - I know, it's much more convenient for parents if INSET days are tagged onto the end of holidays, for example the Monday of the week back etc, although some parents would argue that this means taking time off work to look after their children is even more difficult. INSET days be during the actual holidays, e.g. middle of half term break, as teachers' contracts require them to work 195 days per year and children have to have 190 days of school. If the INSET day was in the holiday itself then I think teachers would be working more days than they are contracted to (I think?)and children would be in school for more days than expected.

onehunglow · 04/02/2009 12:10

oh god i dont think i couold have coped with another day with the kids off. they just bikered and i dont kno how i managed when they were younger. i was very fed up i kno and found myself in crappy soft play areas i hate primary colours now. up at 6.30 to photograph snowman i know bless but im glad back at school im a crap mum.... yeha im off to costa

helpwithaletter · 04/02/2009 12:15

mine are 11 and 15 and gone back to school today. i am missing them and the snow soooo much. i wish i never had to work and we had more time together.

clutteredup · 04/02/2009 12:15

Just had the one day off school with my DC but would have been nicer if I'd known before I'd gone through the whole rushing to get out of thew house saga - wanted not to have to do that this am but then again it was fun yesterday today it might have started to get a bit samey - more out all day in the snow and cooking and playing games and plenty of excuses not to do stuff round the house - am not working at the moment so I'm sure it's different for me, must be hard if you go to work and have no back up childcare.

Dropdeadfred · 04/02/2009 12:28

it's a shame that people don't enjoy more spontaneous time with their children (not you Bonkerz I understand that your time must have been stressful)

Gateau · 04/02/2009 12:35

Those who are fed up being in the house with bickering kids, why didn't you go OUT of then house and let them work off some steam??!

lou33 · 04/02/2009 12:41

oh also ds2 wasnt safe to go out in his wheelchair in it, so he didnt have too much of a good time
