Last 2 days has not been nice for me, looking on here it seems people have loved having their kids home and enjoyed 'making memories' etc but for me the last 2 days have completely drained me! The roads here are not brilliant but i still sent DS off in his taxi (i have assumed the taxi driver is more experienced than me and therfore safer for DS!) and DH has taken DD to playschool down some horrid icy back roads but if the staff can do it then so can we!
I need a bath and am going to get back into bed for some R and R!
So i suppose im an awful mummy!

I have enjoyed having dd1 home but was so pleased she went back today so we can get back to normality. The snow was fun but listening to dd1 talking non-stop all day was giving me a head ache .

FairLadyRantALot · 04/02/2009 12:47

possibly because there is only that much you can do with snow that refuses to be made into a snowman

must say, I am glad that my lot is back at school...I love them to bits and they were actually pretty good...BUT...well...it's nice not to be talked to constantly (ms doesn't stop talking from teh moment he wakes up to the moment he goes to sleep...

Gateau · 04/02/2009 12:50

I don't necessarily mean out as in OUTSIDE.
The world doesn't close because we get snow - although the media would have us think otherwise. There are still soft play centres, museums, shops, cafes..

pagwatch · 04/02/2009 12:52

Actually I have to say these last few days have been unbelieveably lovely.
DS2 was a picture of joy. He has SN and i was not sure how he would react to the snow but he has been in the garden almost constantly. He was able to play some games with DD when sometimes play can be hard because of his limited understanding. I got some loveley pictures and memories to treasure.
I would not have missed it. Today we are going to make a little book of pictures for him to take to school when they go back tomorrow.
His smile is the biggest I have ever seen it ( outside of Disneyland)

Dropdeadfred · 04/02/2009 12:52

I second what gateau is saying..surely your own children can't be that awful to entertain for a couple of days?

This was bonus time that people had with their children...I'm amazed more people aren't raving about how briliant it was (although I see from the snowy pics thread that alot of peole did in fact enjoy it).

Gateau · 04/02/2009 12:59

I would have LOVED to have had two more days off with DS. But I had to get back to work . We went sledging on Monday - fantastic. They may never see the like again as children so we made the most of it when we could and thought of ourselves as REALLY lucky. It's really sad to see people moaning about it.

compo · 04/02/2009 13:05

onehunglow - why on earth woud you go to a softplay centre when there is snow outside to play with and it's free?!

Gateau · 04/02/2009 13:07

CHildren get cold easily though, don't they?

compo · 04/02/2009 13:08

not if they are wrapped up warmly and running aorund in the snow

Dropdeadfred · 04/02/2009 13:09

when my dd3 (aged3) got cold we just came in for a while, gave her something warm to eat, changed her clothes and headed back out...

Gateau · 04/02/2009 13:10

But my feet get freezing in wellies, even with ultra-thick socks. So theirs must do too.
But they obviously don't care.

pagwatch · 04/02/2009 13:11

dropdead
ditto
I have a huge pile of discarded jeans, socks and gloves to be washed and dried.
Ds2 is back out there as I type. he is sweepingthe snow up

Gateau · 04/02/2009 13:11

We came home with DS cos he was cold and gave him his lunch. Then he fell asleep for 2.5 hours and it was too cold and dark to go out

pagwatch · 04/02/2009 13:12

gateau
were you ever a child
OF COURSE they don't care and they don't notice. They are running around, not shivering like a big ponce ( like I do )

Gateau · 04/02/2009 13:15

I can't bloody remember, can I?
My Ds is only 21 months so he doesn't run around that much; he's still a bit scared of the snow but he did love the sledging.

Dropdeadfred · 04/02/2009 13:15

Pagwatch...I'm all for extra washing/drying though under the circumstances, as I bet are you!?

pagwatch · 04/02/2009 13:18

oh yes indeedy.

queenceleste · 04/02/2009 13:19

yanbu!
i'm so relieved! but dd had 2 jabs yesterday & won't let me put her down, house = tip!

Bramshott · 04/02/2009 13:22

Okay maybe I am a moany bugger, but one day with the kids unexpectedly at home and snow on the ground is magical, two days is quite fun, but three days is beginning to get on my nerves! We have been out in it every day, but this snow really is too deep for my 22 month old - she can't walk in it as it's up to her waist, and I can't push a buggy in it, so not much fun for her! Her 6 year old sister quite likes it, but she is missing her friends (who don't live within walking distance). I am not going to even try to get the car out as the drive is blocked and the roads are like glass, so we are pretty much stuck here - as I say, lovely for 1 day, but not for 3. I'm now starting to wonder whether there will be any school this week at all?!?

compo · 04/02/2009 13:22

where do you live Bramshott?

Bramshott · 04/02/2009 13:27

Hampshire - in the North Downs (not in Bramshott, although I used to!)

scampadoodle · 04/02/2009 13:29

Dropdeadfred: actually my children are that awful! (& I am a rubbish mum also which doesn't help). They are 7 & 4, boys, & very, very demanding. They sap my energy just being in the same room as me. They talk constantly, usually at the same time. When they are not talking to me they are fighting eachother, or being deliberately naughty to wind me up. On Monday they were up at 5.45 - they went out in the snow at 7am!!! By 8.30 they were bored & destroying the house. I got some of their friends round & we did end up having an ok day but I was shattered. Holidays are better because I plan stuff but impromptu days like that are difficult especially when there's no public transport.

So shoot me, yes, I was glad when they went back yesterday.

scampadoodle · 04/02/2009 13:31

I should say: " I ended up having an ok day"... DS1 said it was "the best day of his life so far"

FairLadyRantALot · 04/02/2009 14:14

but softplay and cafes, well, mihgt not be option for everyone...i.e. if nothing like that in walking distance...etc...

scampadoodle...your 2 sound like my ys and ms...(4 and 6)

tjacksonpfc · 04/02/2009 14:14

ive loved having the snow now my dcs are 3 and 4 they can enjoy it. they were of school mon and tuesday and due to go back today. But roads are like a skid pan and its a long drive on country roads to school. So kept them off phoned school and explained and they understood my reason. With the weather forcast they could end up being off all week as i dont think risking there life on the roads is worth it for a few hours at school
