I really don't think I am. Eating corned beef IS like eating cat food.

It's disgusting stuff and I really don't know how people can do it.

So there.

Pointydog, how on earth do you get corned beef that's not in a tin???? What's that about then?

OP posts:
piratecat · 28/01/2009 18:59

differentID · 28/01/2009 18:59

Ok, I have gone to my cupboard and picked out a can of "Metoer" brand corned beef.

INGREDIENTS

Cooked beef, salt, sugar,preservative(Sodium Nitrate)
Each 100g of Corned beef is made from 120g of beef

piratecat · 28/01/2009 19:00

why is it called corned? beef

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 28/01/2009 19:01

Corns in it.

Talking of feet.

OP posts:
differentID · 28/01/2009 19:01

corned is an old term for preserved.

bananapaddlepop · 28/01/2009 19:01

corned beef = foul
corned beef out of tin = unimaginable

piratecat · 28/01/2009 19:02

lol @ corns!!!

differentID · 28/01/2009 19:02

corned:
marinated in brine, often containing garlic, peppercorns, cloves, etc.; preserved or cured with salt:

piratecat · 28/01/2009 19:02

corned beef that isn't in a tin, i have never heard the like. proper posh that is!

wheresthehamster · 28/01/2009 19:03

Tinned corned beef is only used in hash. Proper corned beef slices are yummy. We ate it all the time as kids. Sandwiches, main meal with beans and chips, corned beef salad etc.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 28/01/2009 19:06

Making your own corned beef? All a bit Hugh Fearnley for my liking... Which is quite posh, isn't it.

am tempted to order some

does this link work?

pointydog · 28/01/2009 19:07

You can buy it at the cold meat counter, mother. Do you get out much?

lou33 · 28/01/2009 19:08

oh i love a corned beef and pickle sandwich from time to time

my mum used to give me corned beef with boiled potatoes in butter and beans when i was a kid and i loved it

pointydog · 28/01/2009 19:09

yes, pirate, rollmops are so disgustingly fishy. I like pickled things. I think the pickly taste and soft texture and gherkins got to me.

The other thing in rollmops is onion, gherkins and peppercorns

loobeylou · 28/01/2009 19:09

the sliced corned beef you get in packets or on the deli counter, still comes out of a tin, great big long things they are!

we are a half and half house for those in favour/against cb - DS age3 loves it in his "meat and pickle sandwiches" and in hash. Tis great camping food, quick and easy.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 28/01/2009 19:09

Waitrose stuff. I still think it looks gross. But must be posh from there!

OP posts:
pointydog · 28/01/2009 19:10

corned beef salad. Didn't like that much as a kid

loobeylou · 28/01/2009 19:10

oh yes and as for rollmops, pass the vom bucket [shudder]

pointydog · 28/01/2009 19:11

They might come out of a tin at some point (not that I am just taking your word for that) but the beef is not briny and jellyish.

I buy M&S corned beef de temps en temps.

MitchyInge · 28/01/2009 19:12

what are (is?) rollmops then?

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 28/01/2009 19:13

corned beef from a tin is fab in corned beef hash

do you want to know something else??

I like SPAM!!!!

and spam fritters

BUT I will say that I do not have an educated palette at all

I do eat other things that aren't so gross like danish blue, gherkins, salmon

but I love spam, corned beef AND happy stars

HolyGuacamole · 28/01/2009 19:17

OMG! I could never eat corned beef...bleugh. Rollmops I couldn't even contemplate for one second...no way! Never tried them and never will.

I do like tinned tuna though.

FairLadyRantALot · 28/01/2009 19:18

YANBU...it IS vile! It looks vile, too...
