.....or is it usual to tell girls to stick things down their tights.

DD1 who is 7.5 was told she had to put a library book reminder down her tights so she didn't lose it ? (apparently it is what teh librarian told her own children to do with imprtant messages)
Not sure I really like the idea of her having to lift her skirt and shoving something down there in front of the class if she doesn't want to.

how odd

maybe she was joking - kids say all kinds of crap.

traceybath · 28/01/2009 17:10

quite an odd suggestion in my opinion - whats wrong with a pocket or in her bookbag?

morningpaper · 28/01/2009 17:11

well mayybe if she didn't have pockets she could shove it down the waistband of her skirt/tights

I would find it hard to get remotely worried about tbh

MaureenMLove · 28/01/2009 17:11

She doesn't need to lift her skirt, does she? Can't she put it down the front via the waist band on her skirt?

Still, its an odd thing for the librarian to tell a child to do!

Oh, and fwiw, a lot of teenage girls at my school, keep their phone twisted up in the top of their tights!

Katiestar · 28/01/2009 17:13

No I'm not really worried about it but have just told her to say in future that 'her mum doesn't want her to do that' if she feels awkward.

nothing to worry about - sounds like a librarian who has got her own DCs and is fed up with notes not arriving home. I sympathise.

We used to stick our dinner tickets in our socks at primary school.

ANamesANameForAThatsTaken · 28/01/2009 19:20

I used to steal smarties from the local newsagents and stick them in my knickers

ANamesANameForAThatsTaken · 28/01/2009 19:21

but I haven't done it for quite a few weeks now

This reminds of a funny incident a few years ago. I used to go to a club in Birmingham, on a Sunday daytime and went for a walk with a friend looking for a shop open for him to buy some underpants (another story). It was Easter so nowhere open and we trudged everywhere
It wasnt till we got back to club I realised an erm...... little plastic bag I had secreted in the top of my tights had worked its way down and was stuck at the back of my calf for all the world to see

janeite · 28/01/2009 19:39

I suspect the librarian may be from the days when school knickers had a little pocket in for keeping bus money etc!

janeite · 28/01/2009 19:40

And girls' nights out where taxi number/money is kept in the bra!
