To buy DS second-hand Wii games from E-bay?

DS is 8 in March and has given me the 'Birthday list', which contains lots of Wii games.

Money is V tight round here at the mo, so I could only really afford to buy 1 BN, however I have managed to get three that he wants from E-bay. My MIL says this is awful and I should be too ashamed to give second hand pressies.

They look brand new, you cant tell they have been used and they all work (I have tried them )

Should I be ashamed of myself?

YANBU

Your MIL is talking out of her arse

Frasersmum I have a simpsons game you can have for free (well for the cost of postage) my dc got it for xmas and have got that many (not from me relatives ) that it has been pushed aside .

Let me know if you want it.

YANBU BTW.

Niecie · 28/01/2009 11:05

Of course not.

Tell her you can buy second hand ones in the shops (like Game). It is the way of the gaming world.

I bet your DS will be chuffed to have 3 games rather than one with slightly shinier packaging. I know mine would be.

CandleQueen · 28/01/2009 11:08

Ignore MIL.

PandaG · 28/01/2009 11:08

not unreasonable at all. our DC both got PS2 games for Christmas from E-bay, would not have had them otherwise!

Frasersmum123 · 28/01/2009 11:13

ComeWhineWithMe - thanks ever so much but he already has that one - got it for Christmas and he isnt that fussed with it either, I think its too 'strategic' for him, he loves the driving games!

Thanks everyone, I was feeling really embarrased. I have bought him two small Lego sets that he asked for, and a Horrid henry book which are all BN, but those games are so expensive!

YANBU... does she know how much they COST?

I gave DSD some DS games that I had bought for myself second hand (I am very childish LOL!). She's not bothered, she gets to play games!

laweaselmys · 28/01/2009 11:14

Of course not, we always buy second hand games! It's cheaper and they're exactly the same, why wouldn't you!

ComeWhineWithMe · 28/01/2009 11:14

It's ok it is a bit odd isn't it lol .

Anglepoise · 28/01/2009 11:15

Tell her they're vintage

tjacksonpfc · 30/01/2009 07:15

comewhinewithme. can i be cheeky if you dont want the simpsons game can i have it off of you for my dcs please as they keep naqgging me for it and ive told them they will have to wait till there birthdays as its expensive.

Nekabu · 30/01/2009 07:22

Your MIL is away with the fairies!

Wallace · 30/01/2009 07:28

Why didn't I think of ebay! Off to look now

AnarchyAunt · 30/01/2009 07:45

You are a Bad Mother. He will never forgive you

How will he know??? Would he even care? DD is quite happy with presents if they are something she wants - she often knows things are second hand but it doesn't bother her in the slightest.

BouncingTurtle · 30/01/2009 08:20

Your MIL is either a snob or clearly has no idea how much they cost!
If she wants him to have them new, tell her to buy them!

YADNBU.

I always buy games second hand and they always arrive in excellent/as new condition. What's the point in paying £30+ for something you can get for £12-£15?

helenhismadwife · 30/01/2009 11:09

nope good for your your ds will get three things from his list rather than one

MIL is an idiot
