To park DS1 in front of Cbeebies all day because I can't cope?

I'm currently beating myself up about basically parking DS1 (2.5) in front of In the Night Garden all day today.

I'm 33 weeks pregnant with our second baby, have had an undefined stomach upset for a week (been checked out by the doctors, it's just something I need to get over) and have been up half the night with a cold and temperature. DH works nights and is asleep upstairs, and I've just had a bit of a cry in the loo because I'm miserable, run down and DS won't nap.

We don't have any family nearby (DH's are in Wales and mine are in Spain) and I really want my mum, a hot Ribena and a cuddle!

I'd get the chocolate out if I were you and just curl up on the sofa with him
hope you feel better soon

It's what cbeebies was made for.

I'm currently 10 weeks and suffering, and ds has watched many hours of it.

Put your feet up and get yourself that ribena.

ithinkimtallandblonde · 23/01/2009 12:26

Nope perfectly reasonable needs must, he won't suffer.

MrsMattie · 23/01/2009 12:27

You are joining the ranks of many women who have done the same

I had hypermemesis for the first half of my pregnancy, obstetric cholestasis at the back end, SPD all the way through, and constant bouts of tonsilitis / chest infections to top it all off! I also had to trek a half hour walk and back twice a day to get my 3 yr old to nursery. The rest of the time was spent with me snoozing on the sofa while Ds watched CBeebies on loop. I did so unashamedly. Pregnancy can be really draining and that's without having to look after other children. Don't beat yourself up about it.

JJ26 · 23/01/2009 12:27

Nope, its what we do often;)

onepieceofbrusselssprout · 23/01/2009 12:28

You poor thing. Don't worry, a day won't hurt. Perhaps your dh will have chance to play with him/go to the park or something when he wakes up?

ComeOVeneer · 23/01/2009 12:28

YANBU at all. If ds wasn't at nursery today he would be parked with cbeebies today to. I have a horrid head cold, headache, earache sinus pain, couldn't sleep last night as couldn't breathe and dh is working such crazy hours atm (he didn't come home at all last night but usually back around 11pm)

Hope you can rest a bit and feel better soon.

Hawkmoth · 23/01/2009 12:28

Yesterday DD (3) had a Nick Jr day. After one too many "No... WAAAAAHHHHHH"s and me heaving her upstairs before she wet herself I just gave up.

Am 11wks pg and have SPD. Balls to her is what I thought. I didn't even bother to get her dressed.

Lizzylou · 23/01/2009 12:30

YANBU, when I was pg with DS2, DS2 was often in the care of cbeebies whilst I lay on the sofa.
Hope you feel better soon

bumpybecky · 23/01/2009 12:31

YABU - very very unreasonable! but only because you said you're beating yourself up! DO NOT feel guilty for this. Look after yourself, grab a blanket and cup of tea / coffee / hot choc and head for the sofa. Big cuddle with DS and maybe you'll both fall asleep

Hope you're feeling much better soon

LilRedWG · 23/01/2009 12:32

Not at all unreasonable - I do it for far less reason.

laumiere · 23/01/2009 12:35

Thanks ladies, Ribena is being sent by Tesco in the weekly shop tomorrow, I sadly can't stomach the chocolate!

In front of the Night Garden? all day? I am straight on the phone with NSPCC!

We all have done it every now and then. As long as it is not regular you should not stress to much about it.

Congratulation for the LO to come!
