when my DH had the snip, he was given the all clear. Then a couple of weeks later he got a call from the hospital to say that the consultant wasn't happy and that we should continue to use contraception til he had more tests. Never quite got to the bottom of why they were checking back after DH had been given the all clear. We got away with it but just goes to prove it's not always 100%. Good luck.

Niftyblue · 21/01/2009 14:00

Good luck [hugs]]]

Tigerschick · 21/01/2009 14:05

Hope you are OK ...
Good luck with the test, if you haven't already done it.

alicet · 21/01/2009 14:06

My dh is threatening to get the snip. i don't want him to as we are both only mid thirties and our ds's are still little. Although I really don't want anymore I just feel that I wouldn't want something so irreversible. Hence I have a Mirena which is allegedly as effective.

If dh starts banging on about it I will show him this thread so he can see that it doesn't always work!

Sorry for that brief highjack... Hope you are OK honey and that the test results are negative. I can understand why you would be anxious about sharing this with your dh esp if the result is positive but agree with the others that he may well surprise you. Good luck xxx

My DHs vasectomy didn't work, he is waiting for a redo.

As long as you haven't slept with anyone else then theoretically you have no reason to fear telling your DH. But I can understand that you must be nervous, an unplanned pregnancy is a scary thing.

Good luck.

alicet · 21/01/2009 14:07

highjack? HIGHJACK!!!! Sorry obviously I mean hijack....

Fimbo · 21/01/2009 14:09

NC are you ok?

katedan · 21/01/2009 14:09

Any news namechangeasdpisalurker?

My DH has had a vasectomy so I would be very interested if you are PG!!

As the only possible Dad is your DP don't worry, I am sure you will both be shocked but he can't be pi**sed off with you.

FromGirders · 21/01/2009 14:10

Just wanted to say that it took 15 months for my dh to get the all clear after the snip, and that was more like 60 ejaculations, because we were told to do 15 between each test (not that I counted or anything).
They're tenacious little buggers.

Littlefish · 21/01/2009 14:31

I know someone who had 2 children after her dh's vasectomy.

He was re-tested after the first one and got the all clear. She became pregnant again and he was re-tested. All clear again.

She had 2 DNA tests which proved the children were her husbands.

She's a medical marvel!

purpleduck · 21/01/2009 14:34

oh!!! the suspense!!

feelingtired · 21/01/2009 14:47

I got pregnant after my husband had a vasectomy. My husband never doubted my fidelity for a second. He was too scared to have the test to see if it had worked cos he didn't want to go through the embarrassment. I've since had a coil fitted, it's safer!

NeedCoffee · 21/01/2009 14:54

good luck op!

Hope it's going your way namechangeasdpisalurker

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 21/01/2009 15:28

x posts excellent news, and good luck at the docs.

Oh and I'd show this thread to your dp so he knows what you were going through today!!!

Tigerschick · 21/01/2009 15:36

Oh good, I'm glad you can relax now.
Hope all goes well at the docs; I'm sure there is a perfectly logical explanation

LazyLinePainterJane · 21/01/2009 15:36

Unless you are more pregnant than you think you are. The hormones drop off after a while don't they, in terms of tests?

Sidge · 21/01/2009 16:02

Lazyline, the HCG levels do taper off as the pregnancy progresses but never low enough to not be picked up by a pregnancy test.

They peak at about 9-12 weeks, then drop after that. For example most pregnancy tests detect HCG levels of between 10 and 50 mIU - at 17-24 weeks pregnant average HCG levels are between 4,000-165,000!
