To think a certain babysite has gone stark raving bonkers....

...cos they are now apparently going to CHARGE members for using their AN clubs.

Not just a small fee no less....they want to charge people £50 for it!!!!!

for that you get a goodybag though (just like a free bounty bag then?)

a £50 voucher (if you spend £250 in their shop mind....)

a DVD (which is free from your MW on the NHS...)

I am outraged at them. I know a lot of you prob don't use other sites, I lurk here a fair bit but used my AN club on this other site a lot as I didn't really "get into" mumsnet until a bit later on.....to take away the support they give to new mums too make me a bit sad.

Oh and this site is BABYWORLD btw incase you fancy a look and a laugh.....

That was the first site I found when expecting my youngest.

paddingtonbear1 · 19/01/2009 21:13

it was the first site I found too.
I haven't used it for a while now.

scrooged · 19/01/2009 21:14

Well, that's one way to get exclusivity for the well off. I certainly wouldn't pay £50 to be a member of a site! Alienating 75% of parents on low incomes really isn't the way to go.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 19/01/2009 21:20

WOW! Nutters I say! Anyone who pays that realy does have to much money!

Sidge · 19/01/2009 21:21

Heckers that's rather steep.

I used to use BW but then discovered that it's the members that are treated like babies

suzi2 · 19/01/2009 21:23

Devils advocate. Why do you care so much? You're obviously not loyal because you're posting on here

goingonfortynoelectricshocks · 19/01/2009 21:28

I got into the most terrible trouble with them years ago as i was pregnant with my first. I mentioned in passing on a different second thread that the op was TTC a second child. Queue 12 (yes i counted) posters telling me in very horrible terms not to be so insensitive and that all threads and topics should be kept separate and that she didn't want anyone on this thread to know that thankyou very much.

I was soooooooo upset. Put me off forums for years actually - before i found Mumsnet (and obv toughened up a bit).

cheesesarnie · 19/01/2009 21:30

tell them to stick it up their bottoms and stick to mn.

Lors23 · 19/01/2009 21:31

Suzi2 - eff off. :-p

Never have been loyal to just one site ;-)

fruitshootsandheaves · 19/01/2009 21:31

Bit of a coincidence in that tonight I was thinking of starting a thread about how many people on MN had been members of BW when it used to have a live chatroom as I was there alot then.

TheNinkynork · 19/01/2009 21:34

Fifty pounds

My old AN group there didn't have a collective I.Q of 50!

suzi2 · 19/01/2009 21:37

Come on no Lors... you've said that you couldn't live without BW. You live it, you breathe it. I bet you're the first to pay the £50

Ninky, hoping I wasn't one of your AN club buddies. If so, that leaves you with an IQ of 1

waspriceyp · 19/01/2009 21:38

Holy crap! I just bought a car seat from them, cheapest of the best iykwim. But that is a lot of money! What are their credentials? They are based in south Oxfordshire, having recently moved from there, I wonder if that's why they thought it was a reasonable price. But even NCT a much more reputable organisation doesn't ask that and certainly does not exclude people who cannot pay a subscribtion, so no YANBU

TheNinkynork · 19/01/2009 21:44

I wouldn't call them "buddies" suzi2. Your baby's first year really isn't the time to be feeling frustrated and ganged-up on by Pram Huns who think BF and BLW are works of the devil and CIO most "definately" suitable for babies under six weeks old. The HV said so, you know

The debate forum could be fun at times but none of the decent posters were in my ANC.

suzi2 · 19/01/2009 21:49

You obviously weren't in any of mine then - I'm a BF, BLW who thinks that CIO is the work of the devil but admits defeat and has done it.

TheNinkynork · 19/01/2009 21:54

I have tried it on occasion, but to be fair DS is a strapping 20 months old

I'm just wading through the thread in Chat about it. Amazed it hasn't been deleted yet!

SweetChildOMine · 19/01/2009 22:20

I used to be a member of babyworld but their mods and 'rules' used to infuriate me so much.

If a thread got a little heated, some power tripped mod would come along and say something like "RIGHT, FIRST AND LAST WARNING, ANYMORE OF THIS NONSENSE AND THE THREAD WILL BE DELETED. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED"

pmsl err ok, soz hard.

and if you wrote "I'm have a shitty day" you'd be hounded and beaten "DO NOT USE SUCH LANGUAGE ON OUR FORUMS!!"

I stayed with them for a while posting shit just to wind the mods up but then found mumsnet

Is it true that someone got banned on BW for saying "for god's sake" as it was classed as religious hatred or something??!

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 19/01/2009 22:36

£50! fuck that. (not that I've been on babyworld, but I wouldn't NOW!) I didn't sign up to bad mothers club and they only wanted £12!!! [tight as a gnat's arse emoticon]

HecateQueenOfGhosts · 19/01/2009 22:39

sweetchildofmine - scary look into the future for MN if HQ don't take their fingers off that fecking delete button!!!!

saphron · 19/01/2009 22:49

whats cio?

NewAmazingBeginning · 20/01/2009 08:01

I'm guessing crying it out.

BoffinMum · 20/01/2009 08:07

Does the £50 include a free baby???
Thank god for MN.

Grendle · 20/01/2009 19:35

What I love is that the only thing in the goody bag other than the "recommend a friend" voucher, is a DVD that's available free to view online .
