Being angry about the MOT test making you fail just because of the number plate?

Put my car in for an MOT today and all the important bits passed, but it failed on.............the fact that the number plate does not have the postcode of where the number plate was made....FFS!
This is a new rule that came in this year, so if you are due for an MOT, just make sure your plates have a postcode on them!
Got to find some time now to get down to Halfords to get new plates made and then go to the garage with them, just so that they can deem them legal.
Such a waste of time and money!

Crikey! Never heard this one before!
Thanks for the heads up!

HeadFairy · 19/01/2009 17:42

Blimey, mind you I was failed once for having a dirty numberplate. What's wrong with a little wipe and you passing me? Oh that's right, you won't get your retest fee... never went back to that garage!

flossie64 · 19/01/2009 17:57

I had this last year ,on our camper.
It was not new to us ,we had been driving it about for 18mths, no problem and we lived across the road from the chief constable. I got the feeling it was a bit of a money spinner!!

CaptainUnderpants · 19/01/2009 22:22

for your info

ANamesANameForAThatsTaken · 19/01/2009 22:35

Ripeberry that was pretty low of the garage to do that to you. My garage that I've been with for 15 years always point out small things like that before they begin.

Have you used them before?

I don't know what it is but I always get the feeling that garages rip women off if poss and thats why I always get my dp to deal with them.

alibubbles · 20/01/2009 09:28

Crikey, all 5 of our cars have personal plates with no postcode on, 3 have had their first MOT's this year but no problem, but got told off about sat nav holder in DD's car on the windscreen as it "obstructs" the view!

ssd · 20/01/2009 09:30

ali, 5 cars?

are you a taxi service?

ssd · 20/01/2009 09:31

if your car fails an MOT do you have to pay full whack for the re test?

poshwellies · 20/01/2009 09:43

Never heard of this-is this due to the age of car? Ours flew through a mot last week and has plain aluminium and black plates (A over 32 yr old beetle)

mawbroon · 20/01/2009 09:45

One of the advantages of having an old banger I reckon.

I see it is for cars after 2001, so we will be fine by a long way.

poshwellies · 20/01/2009 09:48

What a bloody rip off!.

I'm glad ours is a 'old banger' ,we don't have to pay road tax either .

ComeOVeneer · 20/01/2009 09:55

POsh, why don't you have to pay road tax?

OverSimplistica · 20/01/2009 09:58

ssd it used to be free for a few days after but might have changed

OverSimplistica · 20/01/2009 09:59

here

poshwellies · 20/01/2009 10:20

Our car is that old COV,it's classed as a historical vehicle so we don't pay road tax.

alibubbles · 20/01/2009 11:10

ssd, DH, DD DS and I have two - one for childminding monday to friday that I can leave all the carseats and pushchairs in and one so I can be a woman! ( Merc SL350)

CreativeZen · 20/01/2009 11:26

See here though. You might be able to dispute this. Mind you, your plates will need the post code at some point, so you might as well get them done now. And a retest shouldn't cost again unless you leave it too long.
