To think DH should complain?

DH received an official warning this morning at work.

This is the 2nd one he's had since christmas and the next one will result in him being dismissed.

Thing is neither of them were his fault. The first time it was because he had gotten to work late but there was an accident on the main road which slowed down traffic and then DH was randomly breathalised making him over an hour late for work. He DID explain this but the boss said he was having zero tolerance on excuses.

And now he's been given his last warning. Is this not unfair?? can they do this?

I would post this in employment.

Sounds ridiculous.

Thanks, I will do.

did he phone them and explain at the time?

i think the reasons you give might sound a bit flimsy/made up if not, though it would be nice to think employers trusted their employees more.

was he given an opportunity to make up the time?

i am not sure if you have recourse to an appeal at the point of getting a written warning - someone with proper hr knowledge will be along soon...

what sort of job is he in and whats the protocol for phoning in if you discover on the way that you will end up late - or did he just turn up late? Is he in a union?

What was his 2nd warning for?

MadMarg · 19/01/2009 16:40

He needs to lodge a complaint in writing, just to make sure it is on his file if nothing else. That way they can't just dismimss on a 3rd warning without investigating it further.

They may be looking for a way to make cheap retrenchments at the moment, so he needs to be careful.
