To be horrified at an 18mth old drinking actimel?

Was at playgroup the other day and one of the LOs sat down for her snack to be given some fruit, a biscuit and an Actimel as her drink.

Am I missing something cos I can't think of one single reason why a perfectly healthy 18mth old should be having one of these?

So, AIBU?

I'd sooner shoot myself than watch this Morning. (Is Anne Diamond still on it?)
Or drink an Actimel.

I've no objection to a sausage roll though although have vague and very nasty recollection of lorne sausage when living in E'burgh.

naturalbornmum · 17/01/2009 22:33

Whats the difference between those and munch bunch probitic drinks aimes at children?

expatinscotland · 17/01/2009 22:33

oh, i take teh DDs to Micky D's. whenever we go across the water to do a big shop in Lidl, we go to Micky D's. they get a Happy Meal and i get an apple turnover with coffee.

and at such times, i usually feel quite nostalgic for a cigarette, but i don't have one.

onepieceofbrusselssprout · 17/01/2009 22:33

and the fries expat, don't forget those.

Aitch · 17/01/2009 22:33

actually, my freeview hard drive thingie has revolutionised my viewing, i never wathc things when they're supposed to be on any more. when i was feeding dd2 in the middle of the night recorded episodes of will and grace were my saviour. lord, that programme was the same every week...

moondog · 17/01/2009 22:33

Are you in an island Expat?

fannybaggierthanboygeorgesanus · 17/01/2009 22:33

Just noticed your chimpanzee with the prolapse post Wilf, I nearly went right through my last Tena Lady.

WilfSell · 17/01/2009 22:34

I think the idea of Fairy Actimels is a good marketing ruse actually. They do come in a lot of bizarre flavours.

Aitch · 17/01/2009 22:35

i think everyone is drawing a discreet veil over your chimp fanny, wilf.

moondog · 17/01/2009 22:35

Fairy Actimels?
Are you serious?

I love to suck my teeth when seeing new mad things on market.
I mean, who the hell needs 350 types of yoghurt. Really?

expatinscotland · 17/01/2009 22:35

no, moon, but the shortest way to get to anything remotely resembling civilisation, especially now that Woolie's has gone , is to get a ferry across a sea loch.

oh yes, micky d fries are fab!

when i worked in the Old Town, i used to sometimes go and have micky d fries for lunch.

fannybaggierthanboygeorgesanus · 17/01/2009 22:35

I don't know how people can afford Actimels in the current economic climate, they are about £10 for 6 aren't they?

moondog · 17/01/2009 22:36

What fun, crossing a loch!

moondog · 17/01/2009 22:36

(In a car or by foot?)

onepieceofbrusselssprout · 17/01/2009 22:37

I miss Woolies already. Keep thinking of things I need from there. No pick and mix, no big shelves of kids' toys, no cheapo wine glasses.

(and worse, of course, no jobs for the people that used to work there)

expatinscotland · 17/01/2009 22:38

in a car.

you can go by foot, but then once you get there you're about 3 miles from even Tesco and 5 miles or so from Lidl, so we use the car once a month to do a big shop for basics from Lidl with a few bits from Tesco.

and a micky d's.

moondog · 17/01/2009 22:39

When we lived in Turkey by lake Van (which is fucking huge), the train came from Istanbul to Damascus on the ferry.
Surreal.

No Macdonalds though.
Only kebabs, kebabs and yet more kebabs.

expatinscotland · 17/01/2009 22:39

i WAY miss woolies. pick and mix, especially.

dd1 keeps asking when it's coming back.

we used to get a pick and mix after nursery every friday.

expatinscotland · 17/01/2009 22:40

mmmm. i haven't had a kebab in donks! oooo. yummy scrummy.

i need to go make some more popcorn. i'm hungry.

Aitch · 17/01/2009 22:41

i miss woolies too.

onepieceofbrusselssprout · 17/01/2009 22:41

I took dd1 (5) into Woolies 2 days before it closed. The pick and mix bins were empty - it was really desolate in there. They had a massive pile of toasters for about £3 each and that was about all that was left.

moondog · 17/01/2009 22:42

Oh me too.A huge gaping hole on our high street which is an eyesore (and a real blow to a struggling rural town in a poor part of Wales).

expatinscotland · 17/01/2009 22:43

we went on closing day, onepiece. they had pick and mix and i got TONS of craft stuff for the DDs. people were crying and saying thank you. it was horrible.
