To be horrified at an 18mth old drinking actimel?

shootfromthehip · 17/01/2009 21:59

Was at playgroup the other day and one of the LOs sat down for her snack to be given some fruit, a biscuit and an Actimel as her drink.

Am I missing something cos I can't think of one single reason why a perfectly healthy 18mth old should be having one of these?

So, AIBU?

WilfSell · 17/01/2009 22:00

what would be wrong with it, exactly?

mylifemykids · 17/01/2009 22:00

YANBU but her mother probably thinks as it's advertised as 'healthy' that her child should be drinking it!

gemmummy · 17/01/2009 22:00

yes you ABU. it's non of your business and at least it wasn't coke or something else. if thats the most horrifying thing you saw that day then you need to open your eyes a bit wider.

scrooged · 17/01/2009 22:01

It's not a drink, there's not enough water in it and they are ful of sugar but if it's what her mum decides to give her then that's her choice. They are good for little ones with dodgy tummy's because of the good bacteria inside.

FAQtothefuture · 17/01/2009 22:01

ermm perhaps she likes Actimel - perhaps she's a stubborn little thing (like my DS3 is) who refused to drink water/diluter fruit juice and after trying every other option out there her mum finally found that she would drink the actimels?)

Aitch · 17/01/2009 22:01

the baby may have had an upset tummy, maybe?

compo · 17/01/2009 22:01

it's just like giving a petit filous but on the go
yabu
get over yourself!

scrooged · 17/01/2009 22:02

It could have been worse. A bottle of cold tea/coffee (yuk). A vodka and tonic. A frootshoot. These are far worse IMO.

Ashantai · 17/01/2009 22:02

Arf! If thats all i had to horrify me, i'd be laughing. Imagine if it had been a fruit shoot, you'd be calling the police!

Aitch · 17/01/2009 22:02

ah, now petitfilous... that is shit.

SpongeBrainedHalfWit · 17/01/2009 22:03

Better than a can of coke or a fruitshoot

Horrified is a strong reaction to something pretty innocuous

waspriceyp · 17/01/2009 22:03

What's wrong with them?

compo · 17/01/2009 22:03

lol Aitch

WilfSell · 17/01/2009 22:03

perhaps it wasn't her main drink; perhaps it was in place of a yoghurt, also full of sugar often etc etc...

YAB a bit U

SparkyFartDust · 17/01/2009 22:03

"horrified?"

I would be a bit but would reserve 'horrified' for something worthy of that emotion....like a kangeroo penis or dog crap.

waspriceyp · 17/01/2009 22:03

Yep Petit filou puke, yuk, taste of powder

onepieceofbrusselssprout · 17/01/2009 22:03

I wouldn't be horrified.

YABU and a little bit judgy.

I gave my 17 month old a few (3) chocolate buttons this morning. Is that shocking/horrifying? (tbh I don't care if it is as it is my business)

bamboobutton · 17/01/2009 22:04

i can't believe people get worked up over something so trivial (the OP, that is)

expatinscotland · 17/01/2009 22:04

maybe she has been on anti-biotics.

our 3-year-old is on her THIRD course of them and she's having some probiotics daily.

onepieceofbrusselssprout · 17/01/2009 22:05

Aitch I bet if petit filou came in chip shaped more "solid" form then it would be on the menu for your dds from 6 months.

scrooged · 17/01/2009 22:06

I picked ds up from school on the first day of term and gave him a chocolate biscuit. One of the other mums looked horrified and looked at me with disgust (he's 9 by the way). It's so lovely to have someone look down their nose at you. It isn't going to hurt her. Rot her teeth maybe but nothing else.

souperdahrlink · 17/01/2009 22:06

What on earth is wrong with that?! It's just a bit of yoghurt for goodness sake!

seeker · 17/01/2009 22:06

Must be nice to have such a horror free life that you've got horror to spare for this!

Does your child ever eat fruit yoghurts?

Aitch · 17/01/2009 22:08

lol, brussels. no, i steered well clear of all yoghurty things, can't stand them myself, they give me the heebs.

gemmummy · 17/01/2009 22:08

horror to me is kids in gaza, baby p, oap's who can't afford heating. ffs, people need perspective.
