To expect shop assistants not to swear on the shop floor?

Went to Tesco today where a shop asistant was loudly teling a colleague that she was 'Fed off' and had '...enough the fing management in this f*ing place'.

Is that acceptable in a crowded supermarket?

No , it's not - I agree with you.

FAQtothefuture · 17/01/2009 15:45

well no not really.......but the she is working for Tesco and probably detests them as much as the rest of us do

misshardbroom · 17/01/2009 15:46

No, not acceptable.

The language isn't appropriate, but furthermore it's unprofessional to complain about your job in earshot of customers.

cornsilk · 17/01/2009 15:54

I have heard shelf stackers swearing a few times in Tesco. Never in any other supermarket.

ladymariner · 17/01/2009 16:05

Winds me up aswell. The assistants in the Poundshop were doing it when I was in there, but the snob in me thought "Well, what do you expect....?"
Don't want to hear it though, esp if ds is with me.

LoveMyLapTop · 17/01/2009 16:09

Not acceptable.
I ahd teh misfortune to pop into a Spar on a really rough estate
The tw girls there were really effing and jeffing and as i had my kids with me asked them ' to mind their language'
They just gave me the LOOK and carried on.
I asked to speak to the manager
'I am THE manager' one of them replied.
God help us all

AuraofDora · 17/01/2009 16:13

agree with FAQ
would probably do it too if i worked for them

paolosgirl · 17/01/2009 16:21

Of course it's not OK - doesn't matter where they work, really. They should either put up or shut up.

If I had the kids with me I would tell them to stop swearing, and then depending on the kind of mood I was in (ie PMT/no PMT) I would either move on and forget about it, or go to customer services and ask to speak to their manager

I did, many years ago, but I managed to reserve my swearing for the staff canteen.
