To think that Ebayers should turn up when they say they're going to?

I sold an item on Ebay, and the buyer arranged to collect it this morning at 10 o'clock. I've been hanging around waiting and haven't heard anything from them. I sent them a text at 11 to see what was happening, but no reply. The annoying thing is, it's a large item and I want it out of our flat. I'm getting very annoyed now.

call them. if no reply then just go out.

Aubergenie · 16/01/2009 11:40

I only texted as I thought they'd be driving (coming from quite a distance), and could respond in their own time. I've just called and no reply.

Bugger. I'm now stuck with a bloody great bed in my hallway.

maybe they can,t find the place !! maybe they can,t read the text as they are driving ??? give them a break the item is payed for i suspect !!they will be there to get it i,m sure

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 16/01/2009 11:46

There could have been a genuine misunderstanding or delay. They are only 1.5 hours late, quite possible if they are coming a long way. Try using their e-mail address to send message via E-Bay.

Or they could be a bunch of sharks.

BobtheWoodmouse · 16/01/2009 11:48

I hope they turn up for you. I now always insist upon immediate payment with Paypal even if they want to collect in person later on - that pretty much guarantees they will turn up to collect. I had to learn the hard way first.

Aubergenie · 16/01/2009 11:50

No not paid for yet. They're nearly 2 hours late, now. If you couldn't find the place you'd pull over and call surely.

They've just phoned me. Only just leaving the house as the baby had a poo at the wrong time. Quite casual about it.

Maybe I'm just out of touch. I didn't realise that making someone wait for 2 hours with no contact was acceptable.

I'll definitely insist on payment up front next time Bob.

At least they are on their way. I hope the exchange goes smoothly - have you some change in case they try and round down the price?

bran · 16/01/2009 14:37

That must have been one hell of a poo. I've seen some bad ones in my time but never one that would take over 2 hours to clean up and prevent me from picking up a phone.

thisisyesterday · 16/01/2009 15:21

to all those who said "give them a break"
they could have phoned and said they were going to be over 2 hours late!! even if you couldn't find the place or were stuck in traffic or whatever. doesn't take much to pick up the phone.
really annoys me

Tamarto · 16/01/2009 15:31

If you insist on payment up front, you are leaving yourself wide open to fraudsters.

If you can't prove you posted the item by way of an online sig, if they claim no reciept of item paypal will find in their favour.

thisisyesterday · 16/01/2009 15:34

but tamarto, the OP was having an item collected. so not really the same thing

MadMarg · 16/01/2009 15:43

thisisyesterday - to paypal, it doesn't matter. If you dont' have a postage receipt, then too bad, they will refund the money.

Tamarto · 16/01/2009 15:45

What MadMarg said

thisisyesterday · 16/01/2009 15:59

so, what would you do then? if you sold something and you are posting it?
or do you just not accept paypal??

MadMarg · 16/01/2009 16:13

If you are posting it, you will have need to send it registered so that you can get proof of delivery. If it is under £30 (ish, can't remember the exact figure) you can just get a certificate of posting and that will cover you.

Here we were talking about someone collecting it from your door, which is different. NEVER use Paypal for that!

aubergenie · 16/01/2009 19:52

Interesting point Madmarg. I hadn't realised that.

Anyway, he finally arrived at 2.30. I was not amused.
