This is not a rant against early weaning, formula feeding, or breastfeeding - I need to say that now.

But, I have to be totally honest it gets right on my tits when women crow about how they breastfed then reveal that they weaned their babies at 12 weeks (I know 3 people like this).

I mean ffs if you're going to boast about following guidelines then at least actually follow them!

when I had my first DD the guidelines for first solid was 4 months. But I had a big baby (10lb) and she was SO HUNGRY that I started 2 weeks sooner, on the HV advice. In real terms she was "older" as was 16 days overdue! sometimes, you HAVE to bend the rules, led by the baby. If I was having another now and it was a big, healthy hungry baby, I would still start to introduce a bit of solids sooner than the recommended 6 mths

I'm still bfing ds (2 yo) and I weaned really early - because several paediatricians including a gastroenterology specialist advised me to do so.

Personally I've never met any one who crowed about breast feeding, and the only people I know who weaned their babies at 12 weeks are over 50.
