My OH and i can't decide on which colour fridge freezer to get, you know those retro Smeg ones? I found a brilliant selection on a website i found called Appliances Online, they have both colours we want but we can't agree! our kitchen is quite neutral - so i like the cream one, he wants to make more of a statement and wants black! It's doing my head in and we are going around in circles! aghhhhhh! Personally i think the cream one would look so much better - let me know if you agree.

They look lovely, but almost zero freezer space.

you need to link to the kitchen too......how can we choose without seeing what it will go with??

dutto · 15/01/2009 15:59

No! But you know what they can be like! we only need a smaller freezer as we have a larder freezer.

They get the worst reviews I have ever read, look nice but break down and don't last. I really wouldn't waste my money.

bb99 · 15/01/2009 16:00

Write the colours on a piece of paper and get a stranger to pick one out. That way you can't blame each other if they choose the wrong colour...

I agree with your DH. If the rest of the kitchen is pretty neutral why not have a bit of colour in there too?? Everything in my bloody kitchen is either silver or white [yawn]

mrsmaidamess · 15/01/2009 16:03

I have heard baaad things about Smeg from friends who own them. They fall to bits really easily.

dutto · 15/01/2009 16:04

sorry i don't have any pictures of my kitchen. we have built in / integrated appliances behind traditional oak cupboards.

my mum has the red one - looks v cool. freezer space is for a pack of lollies and thats about it. fridge is quite big for a single one and it does look v cool (her kitchen is black and white!)

psychomum5 · 15/01/2009 16:08

ok, I think silver will look best then.

dutto · 15/01/2009 16:16

ooo, no you have thrown another one in! I don't know what to do now! my friend has a smeg and has never had any problems. will wait for OH to get home from work and have another chat!

i REALLY wanted one of these when we moved house.
DH convinced me otherwise with all the bad reviews! I couldnt find ONE good review of them out there so couldnt argue lol

Got a samsung american style one instead and it is fab. comes in black too.

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 15/01/2009 16:28

I have a cream SMEG fridge. Lots of people admire it. Its a fridge - same inside as all the others and keeps food cold.

(ps we had a stripy one first - Candy Stripe. Had to send it back. It looked f***g awful!!!)

psychomum5 · 15/01/2009 16:30

can I ask..........are all smeg appliances bad??

Lauriefairycake · 15/01/2009 17:37

Psychomum - I had a Smeg dishwasher from Harrods (get me ) in my last house for 5 years - worked like a dream and was a really good, shiny stainless steel (easy to polish with a drop of babyoil)

If it hadn't fitted in with the last kitchen (smeg freestanding oven and extractor hood) and the buyers hadn't wanted it so much i wouldn't have left it.

I still miss it as I'm frickin' washing dishes by hand here

psychomum5 · 15/01/2009 17:39

hey, a good story.....thankyou

moshie · 15/01/2009 17:51

I like the pastel blue, but I'd go for the cream rather than black.

Is it a man thing, liking black, like black leather sofas?

LightShinesInTheDarkness · 15/01/2009 17:53

psycho - I don't think so, but a fridge is not a very complicated piece of kit. Inside the SMEG just looks like any other fridge and ours works just fine.

BonsoirAnna · 15/01/2009 17:55

Get pink.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 15/01/2009 17:59

Oh, we stayed in a holiday house with a SMEG fridge and it was stupid. It didn't have any storage in the door so there was nowhere sensible to put milk. They do look nice but make sure it is not a pile of crap inside before you get it.

ForeverOptimistic · 15/01/2009 18:01

You will be bored of black within 2 years, I think cream is a safer bet.

kettlechip · 15/01/2009 18:45

we had a Smeg dishwasher in our last house - it was fine!
I love the look of the Smeg fridge freezers but our kitchen has a built in one so I can't justify it, much as I try. I'd go for cream, I think..

Apollinare · 15/01/2009 20:46

I have a cream smeg fridge, 10 years now. When my tourettes is very, very bad ( Like now) I can picture its smegness and the language improves (marginally)
