Was I being out of order here?

I was at my friends house today and her 9 year old daughter was off-school ill.

Anyway we were just sat having a cuppa when the DD picked up a pile of catalogues (about 3 argos sized catalogues). She then leant over the side of sofa as though she was going to drop them on the floor.

At this point my friend starting waving around frantically saying "don't drop them! don't drop them!" the DD grinned and let go and the books crashed onto the floor.

My friend immediately grabbed her own stomach and bent over and shouted "argh my stomach!" as though she was in pain!

I burst out laughing, it seemed such an odd, inappropriate responce. Does anyone agree??

Anyway she later said she was suprised to see me laughing at her in pain and "didn't think I was like that" !

Maybe the two things weren't related? Maybe she had a co-incidental stomach cramp?

Leo9 · 12/01/2009 21:27

I am not understanding this message

did she drop them ON your friend?

AnyFucker · 12/01/2009 21:28

How surreal.

Do you often have strange encounters like this?

QueenEagle · 12/01/2009 21:28

Um, I don't get it?

Carmenere · 12/01/2009 21:28

I don't get it, do you think she was faking to upset the dd or what? laughing is an odd response imo

RedOnHerHead · 12/01/2009 21:29

Maybe she strained herself as she shouted don't drop them, or twisted badly - I would have asked her if she was ok if it was me.

CandleQueen · 12/01/2009 21:29

The dropping of the catalogues set off a stomach pain in your freind?!? WTF?

squeaver · 12/01/2009 21:29

what?

AnyFucker · 12/01/2009 21:29

falling books...

evil child...

random stomach clutching...

laughing woman...

tis the stuff of nightmares, I tell ye

Stonehenge · 12/01/2009 21:30

exactly! it just seemed so odd but her DD seemed to know that the reactuon would happen when she dropped the books. She didn't drop them near her or on her so I just don't get it.

I apologised to her and said I was just confused as to why she had pains in her stomach from some books being dropped on the floor and she got quite defensive and said "well I don't know, but I always do"

maybe the sound of them is to her like the feel of cotton wool is to others - maybe the sound "goes through her"

AnyFucker · 12/01/2009 21:32

stone, what exactly was in that cuppa ?

and were you "smoking" too ?

Habbibu · 12/01/2009 21:32

Oh, ok. Well, that is odd, and I guess I'd have thought she was faking it too. How very strange. Wouldn't she be as well keeping all the catalogues out of sight/reach?

AnyFucker · 12/01/2009 21:34

don't go there again

your life is at risk

they are obviously undertaking some evil experiment

KingCanuteIAm · 12/01/2009 21:34

Weird that she gets that response to loud sounds (I assume that is the trigger?)

I think laughing is totally reasonable, it sounds like the sort of interplay we would have at home - ie in fun, messing around stuff and I would expect people to laugh along with us!

Ivegotaheadache · 12/01/2009 21:59

I laughed just reading about it, so I think you laughing having seen it was a very appropriate response!

Does your friend not know that she is strange and make allowances for other peoples reactions?

Stonehenge · 12/01/2009 23:51

She tried to explain it was like butterflies anticipating the bang on the floor but it actually hurts her. She said the same thing happens if someone threatens to burst a balloon.
