That this Virgin Atlantic advert strikes me as really sexist?

"Still red hot", ffs? Are we really still using the Alpha Male pilot surrounded by bimbo stewardesses stereotype? And I know it's set in 1984, but the 'still' in the tagline suggests that they're playing on the image still.

leggy blondes are retro? (notwithstanding the fact that someone has apparently done a headcount and there are no more blondes than brunettes in the ad lol)
that must mean I, in all my shortness and darkness, must be truly of the minute.
hooray!
all i need now is to get me one of those 'ka-ching' stars that appear when i smile - like that uber sexy (rofl) pilot chap, and i'm good to go...
people are a bit tetchy round this neck of the woods today, huh?
all is sexist, racist and not well according to the law of mn.
meh.

Lol I dont think it is sexist...... utterly rediculous, but not sexist!

LittleOneMum · 12/01/2009 11:45

Oh NO! I am so sad that the views are so negative. I love that ad. I love the 80s music, the 80s hairstyles and the brilliant images - Wimpy etc. Come on ladies! I think we're all confident enough not to be phased by this advert.

cheshirekitty · 12/01/2009 19:41

Its done a great job. It has got itself noticed, and that was the aim.

My sexist dh is always moaning about my uniform (tunic and trousers). He dreams of the days of starched aprons, caps, belt and buckles, black stockings!!!
