To think this mother should have more sense?

I got a phonecall from the school today to say that DD had been 'bumped' by another child and had a cut above her eye. When I saw her it was actually quite nasty. I asked what had happened and she said "Coby" bumped heads with me. The thing is, this injury would never have been so bad if Coby wasn't wearing goggles. And not just for DD but for himself also. Apparantly this has happened a few times with him and its always the goggs that cause the damage, both to himself and others.

Obviously he can't help having to wear them but his mother insists on him wearing them in PE too which is when stuff like this happens.

AIBU??

Or mine- blind as a bat! Dh laughs at me all the time as cars clear ours by about 3 metres yet I still duck and screech (from passenger seat, obviously!)

Are we laughing at Coby? Or the bizarre OP? Big difference!

Anyway ds1 not allowed to wear his goggles glasses whilst playing rugby but can't see much without them so it does reduce his ability to participate.

Desiderata · 07/01/2009 22:31

do glasses wear kids?

Clarissimo · 07/01/2009 22:31

Uni's cant all be abck yet, no pissheads outside my door tonight

always a give away

Desiderata · 07/01/2009 22:32

Ah ha! Now I get it, ra29

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 07/01/2009 22:34

We're not laughing at Coby. We're laughing at the bizarreness of the OP.

I was hoping she'd come back, it could have been an interesting AIBU By Stealth. Perhaps Coby actually has a swimming obsession and thinks he's a fish. They're swimming goggles you see.

Ingles2 · 07/01/2009 22:35

I saw a tiny little boy wearing goggles, whilst playing in a football match with much bigger boys a few weeks ago.
I thought he looked adorable.
YABU OP

pofaced · 07/01/2009 22:36

...err, short-sighted children wear goggles rather than spectacles when they play sports so they can both see what they are doing & not risk hurting themselves properly when their glasses break (yes, plastic glasses break). Or they don't participate in sports because they'll be teased because they wear goggles. Or they don't wear glasses so they won't be teased but as they can't see what they're doing, it's futile. Or they wear their glasses and risk injuring themselves and others

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 07/01/2009 22:40

pofaced, we realise that now. We've sort of had to work it out for ourselves. What you say makes sense, but I hadn't heard of it before. And you've got to admit if you didn't know that, the OP is pretty bizarre. And she didn't come back to explain.

And why is it "complicated". Your explanation pofaced, just isn't complicated at all.

LynetteScavo · 07/01/2009 22:42

Ok, as a mother of a child with poor eyesight, I'm ready and willing to smash the face in of anyone who dares to even think anything negative of a child who wears glasses.

If Coby has bumped into other chidren during PE on other occations, it sugests to me that he may have problems being aware of whats around him, or moving his body as well as other children his age. (Or was it your daughter who bumped in to him? - if so she should be more careful!!!!)

It can be a nightmare if your child has poor eyesight. Your wouldnt' belive the tears I've cried over DS, adn the 6 weekly hostpital apointments for years.

I can only think this is some sort of wind up, as you haven't come back, complicated.

LynetteScavo · 07/01/2009 22:44

Even if they are swimming goggles...I'm still with Coby.

allnewcontrolfreaky · 07/01/2009 22:45

smashing peoples faces in for thinking things seems...... a leeetle bit extreme ls.

LynetteScavo · 07/01/2009 22:49

Yes -6 bloody weekly!!!!

Patching for 2 years.

Not so often now though.

The orthoptist has become one of our best friends.

2shoesisskatingonthinice · 07/01/2009 22:50

we got like that with ENT docs lol

MillyR · 07/01/2009 22:50

But the wording of the OP did imply that it was for no reason. Coby's mum insists he wears goggles; it made it seem like it was a quirk rather than a medical condition, like his goggles were his security blanket.

It is clear now that they must be instead of glasses, but I had not heard of them before.

nosyneighbour · 07/01/2009 22:51

oooo - but they might be too scared to some back - they could have been posting for the first time or newish MN

LynetteScavo · 07/01/2009 22:52

I am over sensitive when it comes to DS and glasses. I have been told before wanting to kill 5 year old for pointing and laughing at my DS wearing a patch is extreme.

Obviously it's not something I would actually carry out - and I did explain calmly why he wore a patch - then went home and cried.

nosyneighbour · 07/01/2009 22:53

no nnot first post ther are a series of posts on threads

LynetteScavo · 07/01/2009 22:54

So if the goggles are like a security blanket - then Go Colby! Wear your goggles with pride and security.

2shoesisskatingonthinice · 07/01/2009 22:54

where is the op?
gone...
vanished
so don't fall out over what she might have meant
she can't care to much if she hasn't been back
