Would your 10 year old play with this?

My son has just been given a late christmas present off his aunt. (sil).
It turned out to be a "pirate prison" game which is basically a version of mousetrap. Ages 5+
He won't play with it. He's 10 and a very mature 10. He's into rock music and computers! Whilst I am very grateful at the fact that they got him anything at all, AIBU to think it is a little inapropriate?
I suppose I'm just sick of being snowed under with toys that they never play with and this will just add to that!

My DD is ten in 3 weeks and she would definately play with it.

My son is 10 and a half and would play with it. I'd play with it too. Board games are for all ages.

But by the age of 10, most children do have too many toys and it is better for extended family to give money/vouchers. Could you just give it away? You could donate it to one of those xmas toy appeals next year.

lottiejenkins · 03/01/2009 18:44

How about donating to somewhere where a child might play with it then?

janeite · 03/01/2009 18:48

My daughter is 11 and would probably play with it, especially if with a couple of slightly younger friends or relatives. I agree with Milly that board games are for all ages and for playing as a family, possibly whilst listening to rock music!

Does your SIL know much about children?

seeker · 04/01/2009 22:43

My very mature 13 year old would play with that with us and her brother.Don't let him grow up too soon!

Ingles2 · 04/01/2009 22:45

absolutely... we love board games here.
why don't you try and sell it, or swap it if you think he'd like something else?

chipmonkey · 04/01/2009 23:28

Ds2 is 10 and would play with it.
Then ds3 would find it, open it and destroy it and ds2 would be upset and then go watch Hannah Montana.

TheLadyEvenstar · 04/01/2009 23:33

ds1 is 10 and is also mature but would play with it, in fact i was looking for one as a xmas pressie to go with the collection of Pirates of the Carribbean figures and playsets he got.....

Tinker · 04/01/2009 23:36

Oh, I'd hope my 11-year old wouldn't play with it. Mousetrap is a dreadful game so anything similar woudl be got rid of asap

toomanyprojects · 04/01/2009 23:38

we got this recently - DD1 8.5 and DS1 6 like it, DD2 20months loves to destroy it..
