Woke again to pounding music this morning. I put up with it for a good couple of hours and could feel the fury building. In the end I am afraid I lost it and banged on the wall, screaming at her to turn it down.

Then stormed to the computer and fired off a letter telling her if she does not keep it down then I will take further action ie council, contacting landlords etc and shoved it under her door. It was perfectly polite. However I am feeling a bit apprehensive now. I am not really one for confrontation but I have asked her repeatedly and it is really affecting my quality of life. It keeps my dc up and as soon as I hear it start I feel myself tense up beyond belief.

Feeling a bit shaky and wondering what is going to happen next.

well done you, there is no need to live in such anti - social circumstances and tbh it sounds like you've put up with for longer than most would

keep a diary of events, will help if council/landlords/police etc have to get involved

I think your reaction (assuming it has been going on some time and you have tried the politely telling her to turn it down route first) is more than reasonable.

Something to consider if you might be thinking of moving recently (and you own your home) is that you would have to declare any problems with your neighbours and stuff like official complaints etc can be easily checked so it can make it hard to sell your house. Whereas chats with the neighbour cannot be traced iyswim

Of course if you rent or are not about to move soon then this won't matter!

I can totally understand you reacting like this, I used to have noisy neighbours and eventually began to feel quite unhinged by it (I eventually turned into someone who banged on the ceiling with a broom - I can laugh about it now but at the time I was crazy/mad)

Other peoples noise really is quite wearing long term - most of us modify our behaviour if we realise we are disturbing our neighbours (I know I have been guilty of it myself in the past and moved my player and turned the volume down when I was made aware).

Hopefully she will now realise you are serious and be more considerate but if not then you have warned her what you will do next.
