To really dislike people calling their unborn babies things like Sprout, Bean, Lentil, Bubs etc?

Or am I being unreasonable? I personally find it nauseating.

Getting back to the question... I call mine "her" and when I was pregnant with DS we referred to him as "him". I think it's a comfort thing. I went through a phase of calling unborn DS my little man cub!!

PheasantPlucker · 04/01/2009 22:27

I am not really bothered by it.
I am more bothered when one half of the couple says 'we' are pregnant to me. I really find that boaky.

EyeballsintheSky · 04/01/2009 22:33

We were dead set on the name we wanted to use, so when we found out the sex we used it. Not, when talking to the bump but when referring to her, so I painted X's room etc. Never did the Bean, Sprout etc thing. Each to their own.

NotanOtter · 04/01/2009 22:35

YAB very very very reasonable then [vom]

peachygirl: "Some people I know considered giving their child the middle name 'bean'."

Kurt Cobain's (Nirvana) daughter with Courtney Love is called Frances Bean.

Iklboo · 05/01/2009 14:52

DS was bumplestiltskin (cos we couldn't guess its name as we didn't know the sex)

Lotster · 05/01/2009 14:52

I know of someone who called her baby "turbo" when pregnant and then actually used it as a second middle name...

CatIsSleepy · 05/01/2009 14:53

we asked dd what to call the baby, she said 'doctor who'
so doctor who it is
now, is that better or worse than sprout or bean?

MrsJamin · 05/01/2009 14:57

Indeed, bean is soooooooooo unoriginal and dull.

Iloveautumn · 05/01/2009 14:57

Choklit - we've called both our babies by their chosen names in utero.

For me it's because it helps me to bond with the baby and see him as an actual baby that is going to come out - otherwise I find it too surreal to get my head round!

Some people feel the need to make the baby a person by giving them a name - I don't see why that is weird. I've had two m/cs as well and in a way I think that made it more necessary to personify the baby otherwise I might try to detach myself too much.

Each to their own.....

dd was Matilda Jane cos that was the generic name my mum used for all of us (including boys) When she couldnt quite recall teh name she wanted. EG. Tell Matilda to get down here and do the dishes etc

Seemed logical to use it for dd too.
