Or am I being unreasonable? I personally find it nauseating.

OP posts:

like the lizard or the pram

blinks · 01/01/2009 01:51

i shudder at the 'bean' thing too.

it's oogy

MrsMagooo · 01/01/2009 09:11

DD was Noodle & DS was Jelly Bean

ChrismumMiaow · 01/01/2009 09:24

YABU. You've got to call them something, and I didn't like saying "the baby" all the time. We used something I'd never actually call the baby, so till he came out, he was "Herbert"

CoteDAzur · 01/01/2009 09:40

If people weren't so bizarrely against finding out the sex, they could start using their chosen name for the baby and avoid the bean, bubble, etc.

StealthPoHoHoHo · 01/01/2009 09:52

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN, are you TR?

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 01/01/2009 09:52

I've never understood the popularity of bean. Why bean? They don't look like beans.

pamelat · 01/01/2009 12:23

Mine was bean after the scan, because that is what she looked like. "Baby bean". I think its fairly cute.

pamelat · 01/01/2009 12:24

like a kidney bean shape.

LouMacca · 01/01/2009 12:31

My twins were known as Honey & Sonny. My big bro (who nicknamed them) was very disappointed when I didn't pick them for their real names when they were born!

orangehead · 01/01/2009 12:32

I suppose its better than calling it 'it'.

WinkyWinkola · 01/01/2009 13:24

Not sure why it matters really.

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/01/2009 13:43

i think names are sweet,as you dont want to call your baby their name till they are born

i have been known to sign my cards with my pets name

MsSparkle · 01/01/2009 13:52

So i guess calling the baby "it" is out of the question?

I really dislike it when people sign cards from Dave, Sue and "bump" >>>bucket please

laumiere · 01/01/2009 14:03

I had a really rough pregnancy and being able to give my baby some personality helped me to identify with him and not be resentful. My first baby was known as the Bumpling (because he lived in the bump).

DS2 is known as Danger, as one of his possible names was William, and a friend pointed out this would make him Danger! Will Robson (reference to Lost in Space).

NotBigJustBolshy · 01/01/2009 17:44

Sandcastles - it's a foul practice because it makes me feel a bit sick. Of course, everyone may do as they please, but I always found that "it" was appropriate. But then I am a hatchet-faced, hard-nosed old bag (as you may have guessed).

MamaHobgoblin · 01/01/2009 18:50

Twee names make me squirm too, but most of my best friends had beans, squidges, bubs etc and they're otherwise perfectly normal, rational and nice people, so I'd written it off as me being over-squeamish!

I had a Fish for the first few weeks, who then became The Little Chap at the 20 wk scan as far as DH was concerned, but I usually called him the baby. Didn't feel odd or anything.

tamfod · 02/01/2009 08:50

I am definitely not a sentimental type, my little one was called 'Cletus the Feotus' all through my pregnancy - it was a relief he didn't come out with 6 fingers and he has so far shown no sign of wanting to play the banjo!

boogeek · 02/01/2009 08:52

I hate bean, sprout, etc too (though am aware I am in the minority). Mine were "the baby".
Mind you, I found my friend who introduced herself "I'm Julie and this (gestures to bump) is Victoria" pretty weird too!

MerryMadMarg · 02/01/2009 09:02

Are people just searching for things to be annoyed with? For heaven's sakes, just get over yourselves!

Simplysally · 02/01/2009 09:07

I called my dd Billy or Bobs before she was born.

One of my friends called her son Little Sod.

Now to me, that`s rude.

Sweetie34 · 02/01/2009 09:27

Mine is called Dudley...During my first pregnancy my father mentioned to my partner and I that he really liked that name and "You don't hear if often nowadays". I tried to explain that this is because it is AWFUL.......and the name of a place in the West Mids. From that day all subsequent bumps are called Dudley.

2manychips · 02/01/2009 09:49

YABU have you never given anyone an affecionate nickmane before? I'm mum of grain and pip.

disneystar · 02/01/2009 10:10

disneystar · 02/01/2009 10:12
