To really dislike people calling their unborn babies things like Sprout, Bean, Lentil, Bubs etc?

Or am I being unreasonable? I personally find it nauseating.

OP posts:
Miyazaki · 31/12/2008 20:46

mine were both the beast or the beast that lurks within.

rempy · 31/12/2008 20:47

Mmmm, not a fan of the cutsey cutsey foetal names, but think most people are just trying to find a way of speaking about their impending baby whilst acknowledging the possiblity that it may not actually succeed, hence they don't want to call it a "real" name. And "it" isn't very nice.

So you are sort of being unreasonable. But sort of not.

How rubbish am I at judging MNers!

sweetkitty · 31/12/2008 20:50

I've had Apple seed, Peanut, Grape and Pumpkin. I still call DD3 pumpkin (Halloween BFP)

ScottishMummy · 31/12/2008 20:54

"the dirty squatter" now that is provocative!i unimaginatively used "baby"

ellenjames · 31/12/2008 21:25

all mine have been junior or jr as never found out the sex.

Tidey · 31/12/2008 21:27

I don't mind 'bump' but I would find the other examples rather twee. I don't like 'bean' due to its other euphemistic meaning.

TwoIfBySea · 31/12/2008 21:30

I called my twins one of two and two of two when they were in situ. A reference very few get.

I don't see there being a problem with people calling their baby a nickname before it is born. Lets face it the brain goes to mush anyway.

TeenyTinyTorya · 31/12/2008 21:34

YABU. Who cares? My dh has named my current bump "Fudge", it's sticking so well that it might be in the running as a name when baby arrives

faeriemoo · 31/12/2008 21:52

A friend of mine insisted on calling my last child Jelly Bean whilst she was in utero. To me, she was the Inner Beast. Totally suits her.

MrsSeanBean · 31/12/2008 21:56

I don't know if YABU or not, soz. This comes under the 'have no opinion' category.

golgi · 31/12/2008 22:21

Mine was "the parasite"

2newyearshoes · 31/12/2008 22:26

yabu
I called mine boris
I got fed up with people at work asking me what i was going to call it, one girl believed me though lol

RubyRedfort · 31/12/2008 22:26

It iS wank i agree.

bronze · 31/12/2008 22:28

I had christmas cards written to the bump. I wouldnt even sign them from bump. Ours have names generally before they are born but are referred to as the baby/they/ he or she depending.
I have occasionally referred to it with such delights as this brat or leech but only when I'm grumpy.

mysterymoniker · 31/12/2008 22:29

my brother is called Bubs

2newyearshoes · 31/12/2008 22:31

RubyRedfort you called it wank

misdee · 31/12/2008 22:34

dd4 was frogmella lol.

blueshoes · 31/12/2008 22:54

Agree with OP. It is too twee for words.

hf128219 · 31/12/2008 23:05

Let people do WTF they like. Who cares? Get a life.

TinselBaublesMistletoe · 31/12/2008 23:24

We've always had a bump name, better than just saying baby or it. This time it has been FiFi because Tink has decided that's the baby's name. I had Herbert (my triplet m/c) Bean (Lily-Hope) and Ollie (Tink).

I was George and my brother was Sid.

S1ur · 31/12/2008 23:29
