He of course picked up the post and saw it. It's a book from an Amazon seller. For some unknown reason they have printed the book title right underneath the address label, so it wasn't even as if he was snooping around the package to see what it was - it really was unavoidable.

Am I being unreasonable to think that at this time of year, many purchases will have been presents and so this perhaps isn't the best policy? It's particularly annoying as this book is linked to one of his birthday surprises - i.e. it is a guide book to a place we are visiting on his birthday, but he doesn't know that yet.....or didn't, until this parcel arrived.... [gloom]

Did you inform the seller that it was a gift? If its such a big deal why not get it sent to another address. Its not the end of the world is it?

Yes YABU

MrsWeasleyStrokesSantasSack · 29/12/2008 12:44

I got my DS2 a present it arrived in a box with the invoice saying what it was on the outside, luckily DS1 saw it and covered it up.

Annoying isnt it?

FrannyandZooey · 29/12/2008 12:48

yes it is MrsWeasley

no it isn't the end of the world, believer. it is however annoying and disappointing

belgo · 29/12/2008 12:50

YANBU. That's annoying. (where are you planning to visit?)

feelingbitfestive · 29/12/2008 12:53

So annoying. A few years ago, I got DP a years subscription to a magazine for his birthday. Went through it all on the phone, they even sent me a biirthday certificate thingy to give him on the day (before the first installment). They then sent him a letter thanking him for his subscription! Grrr ! I complained quite loudly tho - kept the subscription and got a refund!
Still spoilt it though.

MrsWeasleyStrokesSantasSack · 29/12/2008 12:54

Ok its not the end of the world BUT it could have spoilt a very special day.

I would have been absolutely gutted if my DS2 had seen the label on his pressie.

Paperchase · 29/12/2008 12:59

YANBU

This is why I never order sex toys or large quantities of drugs cake on the internet - my postman alone would wilt.

V annoying - are you going to email them and tell them so? Because some people really are so daft they wouldn't have thought of that.

IdrisTheDragon · 29/12/2008 13:01

I would be very annoyed - I think you should definitely let them know, so they ill (hopefully) not do the same thing to someone else.

Othersideofthechannel · 29/12/2008 13:13

YANBU

Believer I think AIBU is for things that are annoying but 'not the end of the world'.

AliceTheCamelHasGotTheHump · 29/12/2008 13:16

I don't think an "Is this the end of the world?" topic would be quite as popular though. YANBU F&Z. How irritating.

Othersideofthechannel · 29/12/2008 13:17

at that topic idea.

compo · 29/12/2008 13:21

oh yes Hasbro do that too, dh's prsent came in a huge box with what it was on the side of it

FrannyandZooey · 29/12/2008 14:35

LOL I want an "is this the end of the world" topic

thank you chaps
i should not really have posted in AIBU as I KNEW I WAS NOT (which usually leads to disaster )

and yes i have emailed them

tossers
it's so obviously likely to cause problems
especially at christmas time

it was a guide to the national maritime museum, at greenwich (he is very into boats)
we will still go but I wanted it to be a surprise
we are going to london for a few days and for 2 of the days i have planned a surprise - this was one of them
ah well
perhaps he will forget by then

80sMum · 29/12/2008 14:43

Ah well, what's done is done. Don't let it spoil the lovely day out that you've taken the trouble to plan. I'm sure he'll love you for it!

AliceTheCamelHasGotTheHump · 29/12/2008 14:47

"Meteorites are hailing down upon us and the ground is boiling and writhing. Is this the end of the world?"

My MIL gave my 9-month-old a chocolate button. Is this the end of the world?"

justagirlfromedgware · 29/12/2008 15:40

I think YANBU to be annoyed. And a tip appropro the Maritime Museum: when we take DS10 we make it a special day out by going down by boat (you can get on at Tower Bridge) and back on the DLR (Docklands Light Railway). It gives you fascinating bird's eye views of Docklands development. If you use a travelcard you can get half price on the boat get a voucher from www.daysoutguide.co.uk/city-cruises and the 2for1 website is great for other reductions whilst you're in London.

Clarissimo · 29/12/2008 15:46

It's annoying: what has rhe end of the world got to do with it? Or has believer ne ver been annoyed, after the world has not yet ended.

If she ahsn't perhaps she could apply to be classified as a Bodhisattva and go fortha nd save humanity (- sorry jesting)

DH's present, a £90 barbecue Cobb thing, arrived just as he was leaving one morning the week before Christmas with 'COBB@ printed all over it . Annoying.

FrannyandZooey · 29/12/2008 15:48

oh justa, thanks for that
dp unfortunately v well acquainted with the DLR through work so not much of a treat for him
but i did consider going by boat and the cheap deals are v useful to know about

thanks all
i knew i was right

OP posts:
believer07 · 29/12/2008 18:06

Sorry you did not like my 'end of the world thing' . Perhaps it would be constructive to let them know, they may be able to change their systems to make it better.

Clarisso, I would answer you but could you translate the middle line of our post into English so I can comment.

A7X · 29/12/2008 18:08

this happened to me
ds went to loads of trouble to order it and got it sent to his dad. I picked it up and it had bloody lost boys written on it!!

believer07 · 29/12/2008 18:10

Your post, the middle line of your post..oh piss

FrannyandZooey · 29/12/2008 18:17

yes i've let them know
daft though isn't it? you would have thought it would have occurred to them or that someone would have mentioned it before, so i am not holding out a great deal of hope that they will change anything

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 29/12/2008 19:28

you know, i have been thinking something was wrong about this and here's what it is:

believer, you were the poster who wanted us all to stop swearing
now you said 'piss'
i am telling

OP posts:
believer07 · 29/12/2008 20:25

Yes but the word 'piss' is in the bible.

FrannyandZooey · 29/12/2008 20:34

LOL you are having us on
oh I do love Mn
