went to morrisons this morning to buy the last xmas food (dairy that will go off if bought earlier) and all the dates were for the 23rd. when i asked the spotty teenager if they had anything with a longer date he said yes but they had to sell the short date 1st so werent going to put out the longer date til tomorrow

now, i maybe thick but xmas food (brandy butter to be precise) goes with xmas pudding that is eaten on the 25th.

needless to say, i went to sainsburys on the way home and got the bits there

By this date I would expect that stuff to be reduced and the stuff with past christmas dates out on the shelfs.
Pretty bad practice, I can imagine a lot of disgruntled shoppers.

Err all shops do this you know.

Oh and my ds1 works for Morrisons and has a couple of spots,so hope you weren't the stroppy cow who gave him a hard time for doing his job tonight!!

Did you go and complain at customer services? Or just moan at the spotty teenager?

fledtoscotland · 22/12/2008 23:07

cheers agalchangedhername - no i wasnt the "stroppy cow", i was just gobsmacked that he wouldnt get the longer date stuff out of the cold-store for me. he blatently said no. it was only on my way out i realised how mad i was. FFS i even said thanks to him when he was rude to me

Bloke filling shelves at my local Morrisons told me display until/use by dates were 'only a guide anyway' when i pointed out they had loaves of bread that had already past theirs on display the other month Seemed more interested in arguing this point with me than removing them from sale.

He was doing his job. Maybe if you had gone to customer services you might have got somewhere?

If that's what he has been told to do what can he do?

If he is a teenager i daresay he wants to keep his job no?
