To get all emotional about men landing on the moon?

Just been watching "Shadow of the moon" and the end bit always gets me blubbing about how fragile the earth is and how LUCKY we all are just to be living on it.
Maybe it was the couple of glasses of wine but i can't wait until men/women land on Mars and i hope it will happen in my lifetime.

I don't believe they went.

can open/worms everywhere

ElfByStealth · 21/12/2008 00:30

Of course they didn't go. It was the sixties for pete's sake. Never been back have they, despite all those major advances in technology. Eh? Eh? Eh?

gracie101 · 21/12/2008 00:37

they got to the moon using a computer smaller than one in a modern calculator. Then never went back again. My DH goes mad when I say this too.

Dragonbrandybutter · 21/12/2008 00:42

they've never gone back????

what?

AaliyahsFirstXmas · 21/12/2008 00:43

I thought America have been back?

oh conspiracy theories!!

gracie101 · 21/12/2008 00:44

Why do we not go all the time?

Surely it's somewhere we'd visit a lot. If it was so easy to get there in the 60's?

Why are we not fighting over who owns the moon?

MadamDeathstarOverBethlehem · 21/12/2008 02:39

We have made such a mess of the earth and exploited it so terribly. I am concerned that if we go to the moon and beyond, we will just export our wastefulness to other planets before we learn how to treat this one.

SuperBunny · 21/12/2008 02:50

Actually, that's a good point. Why IS no-one fighting about who owns the moon?

jennybensmummy · 21/12/2008 06:30

i had never really though about ths before but youre all so right, i dont think it happened either or it would be happening all the time surely?!?!

cheshirekitty · 21/12/2008 06:39

Surely the cost prohibits going back to the Moon.

Probably yanks went to the moon, found nowt there ie coal, oil etc and so have decided never to go back (or fight over it).

RaspberryBlower · 21/12/2008 06:50

They did go back 9 times (landed 6) up until 1972 if you believe NASA that they went at all. I agree that it's probably the cost that prohibits it. They went there because they wanted to stick it to the Russians, and then there isn't much point in going there at the moment. Some of the pictures look quite suspect, but I think there is also a theory that they could have gone, and then faked these pictures for the purposes of propaganda. Although I'm quite prepared to believe that they never went at all.

Ripeberry · 21/12/2008 10:41

Now i've sobbered up a bit, maybe you are right. But the Americans are only interested in things that can be exploited.
Aren't the Chinesse going to the moon soon?
They will do it properly and maybe establish bases. That will start a whole new space race!

ah, they've never been at all

pantomimEDAMe · 21/12/2008 10:52

The most important thing about going to the moon wasn't the moon at all - it was seeing the earth from space. That image of the blue planet has shaped our understanding of this place for the past 40 years.

constancereader · 21/12/2008 11:08

I cried at the end of that film too.
