My mate got back from Ireland on Monday,.He rang weds and we arranged for him to pop by this afternoon Fri [ i was busy yesterday] Got house tidy and waited....and waited..no show I texted him at 8.30pm to ask if he'd still be coming and he texted back at 9pm saying that he was really poorly, sick n dying but he'd pop over tomorrow Sat [miracle recovery]. He has let me down before and does tend to tell the odd fib if he forgets, I know it sounds mad but I still have xmas stuff to get and have to take my daughter in her electric w/chair so it's quite hectic ATM so to 'waste' a day just waiting in has made me quite mad. Tomorrow daytime my daughters B/F is coming to visit [he's also w/chair user, dad drops him off]sunday were at a show, monday were at another show so I know it's going to be a last manic rush . AIBU? just to expect him to have texted me in the morning to let me know he could'nt come? would it not have been common good manners in the week before xmas? or am I being a little harsh?.

YANBU to expect a little communication. IF he was ill, hardly an effort to send a quick apologetic text is it?
I feel your annoyance!

xlr8 · 20/12/2008 03:55

Well sometimes when i'm ill, I can't even manage a text! If he is so unreliable, then next time tell him to give you a call on your mobile just before he turns up so that no-one is put out.

kitbit · 20/12/2008 07:55

Does he have children himself? If not, then yes he is being rubbish, but child-less people usually underestimate just how inconvenient it is to be mucked about since when you have kids it's hard to be so flexible and easy going.

Kitbit No he's a single gay guy but still a good mate who would get very annoyed if shoe was on other foot and peeps let him down.
I think it does just generally annoy me when peeps let you wait in all day and no-show but this time of the year obviously I could be out doing lastminuteshopping.com xlr8 If I had'nt texted him he would'nt have bothered getting back to let me know he was'nt coming BUT for him to say he'll be over today it makes me think that he prob is'nt that sick, poorly, dying .

Tell him you are too busy today, catching up on teh stuff you could not do yesterday, and you will see him after xmas.

prettybutterfly · 20/12/2008 12:38

but xlr8, he can't be that ill if he's coming next day!

He forgot or something and is lying to cover up. Merely stupid if you didn't have anything else to do, but actually quite offensive considering this is a busy time .... is he a mate or isn't he?

salsmum · 20/12/2008 13:41

prettybutterfly this is my point entirely we have visitors today [daughters b/f ]so i've told him if he's coming round please make it this eve [hopefully he's not sick, poorly, dying] coz really don't want to get bug or something over xmas so far been pretty 'bug free'. I'll make him welcome thou...season of goodwill etc
