to think that the friends of people who lived here before we moved in nine years ago should know by know that they have moved?

I just can't believe how every year we receive Christmas cards for the previous owners, always in the same handwriting. Why are these people sending cards to people with whom they have presumably had no other contact for the past nine years? What is the point? I find it all very strange.

Also, I do not understand the need for children in ds2's Reeception class to be giving cards to all classmates.

Snap Saadia

We moved her on 1999 so this is our 9th Christmas and we still get the same lone card arrive for ex-owners.

But I do forward it

Milliways · 19/12/2008 22:21

Oops! We moved in here in 1999

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 19/12/2008 22:21

We get the same but the best was when we had the parents of the previous owners on the doorstep.

hellsbells76 · 19/12/2008 22:21

haha! i got one today addressed to (presumably) the owners before the people i bought the house from. so that's at least 10 years ago. weird. i don't get the reception thing either - between school and nursery the DC have had more cards than i have this year and i've never heard of 3/4 of these kids - colossal waste of trees IMO.

DoubleBluff · 19/12/2008 22:23

kids Xmas cards are alreasy bagged up for recycling. Bah humbug!

dirtygertiefromnumber30 · 19/12/2008 22:26

yep, we get a card each year for the ex occupants (5 years running)from bob and jane. i always put it up, seems cruel to bin it....

catweazle · 19/12/2008 22:27

This is the first year (so far) that we haven't received a card for the previous owners who moved out in 1997. Like the OP I wonder why they continue to send when presumably they are having nothing back. We forwarded it for 6 years then stuck it back in the post for another 3. Since then it's gone in the bin.

UnquietDad · 19/12/2008 22:29

Oh, we get this all the time with school cards. Emma? I thought you already had one from Emma? Oh, Emma with the weird hair, not Emma with the nice shoes. And what does that say? Codpiece? Coalface? Oh, Colby... Who's that? And why have you got a card from Jocasta? I thought she hated you? Oh, she does. Who the hell is Jaden? Is he the one who grunts? Etc.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/12/2008 22:46

snap

we have lived here 9.5 years (only another 14.5yrs to go on mortgage)and we yet the odd card for old owners

i do forward on, but as the old owners STOLE our shower curtian and loo roll and loo roll holder , i dont put a stamp on it, and they get charged at the other end

saadia · 19/12/2008 22:57

I would forward if I had their address, or I would return if the doofuses had put a return address on the envelope. UQD I don't know who half of these children are either and I'm pretty sure ds2 is not friends with any of them.

we get this too, though we've been here for a mere 6 and a half years. there was a year when I opened them and just added them to ours to make us look more popular...really can;t be bothered forwarding them anymore

babbi · 19/12/2008 23:05

DH and I were living together for 5 years when I answered the phone one night to a guy who launched into a conversation thinking I was DHs ex wife !! Stated he was just round the corner and would it be ok to pop by ? I politely asked him to hold on a second and called for DH to come and tell the poor sod that ex wife had ran off 7 years previously .... poor guy was mortified - kept saying that he didnt realise he hadn`t kept in touch for so long !!

dreamingofagreenlawnchristmas · 19/12/2008 23:12

A month after we moved in, the previous owner's son phoned - and refused to believe his mum had moved without telling him. Poor boy - must've thought we had her tied up in the cellar or something.
