to have got my 360 degree feedback at work and want to stamp my foot like a small child might do

I think I am probably being a bit unreasonable here TBH but I am feeling a little bruised. I asked 12 of my colleagues to fill in a 360 degree feedback questionnaire and I got my results today. Most of it is good but as ever with this sort of thing its the bad bits which are sticking in my mind at the moment. I feel like stamping my foot at them all in true tantrum manner ! as most of them haven't got the guts to ask anyone else what they think of them - never mind have it in written form. AIBU to feel like this?

Hmm - depends what they said I think!

But I bet I'd be feeling just the same.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 17/12/2008 21:04

I'm guessing they meant it in a constructive way rather than being horrible? Is it stuff you can take on board and work with?

Sorry though, I know what you mean. But if most of it is good then thats great. Try to focus on the positive stuff but see if you can improve on the not so positive stuff so next year it will be 100% positive.

moondog · 17/12/2008 21:04

Wot's 360 feedbacK?

GoodWilfToAllMN · 17/12/2008 21:06

it's when people above, below and same level as you appraise your qualities etc

tumpyfairygodmother · 17/12/2008 21:07

Moondog - its like an online questionannire where people fill in information about how they experience you at work - what they think you need to do to develop etc - its called 360 feedback as the idea is that its people all around you rather than just people above you.
currently sat on sofa popping whole chocolates into my mouth one by one as I "consider" my feedback !

YA a little bit unreasonable, that's what the feedback is for.

Been there and done it. Nobody likes to be reminded that they are not perfect. Give it a few days and have another look at the feedback and maybe you will be able to deal with "the bad bits" a bit better. Maybe they are just minor points to make sure you don't get too complacent? Or is there something in there that you suspected but would not admit to yourself.

Onlyaphase · 17/12/2008 21:08

Can totally see why you feel like this at the moment, but surely the point of 360 feedback is to identify things you do well and things to maybe work on next year.

Tis true though that everyone focusses only on the bad bits. I remember one of my assessments which I was convinced was at least 75% dreadful, but when I actually checked, it was 80% positive and only 20% things to work on.

Well done anyway for trying 360 feedback. Maybe suggest that everyone does it next year?

moondog · 17/12/2008 21:09

Oh
Is it anonymous?
Never heard of it.
Doubtless it will filter bthrough to NHS soon.

tumpyfairygodmother · 17/12/2008 21:09

hmm - its the feedback I thought I would get really but I guess sometimes you hope that the bits you don't like about yourself won't be so blatantly obvious to everybody else !!

Rookietherednosedreindeer · 17/12/2008 21:10

I wanted to do one of these last year and my boss cautioned me because she had one done on herself that although people may write screeds and screeds of nice stuff about you it is the less pleasant pieces that you tend to hone in on and it genuinely does need to be reviewed as a whole.

Thankfully I didn't go ahead with it, but can you leave it for a couple of days and then try and review with a more dispassionate mind frame.

tumpyfairygodmother · 17/12/2008 21:12

Hi moondog - I am in the NHS so its here ! Its a voluntary thing - I think I will tell rest of team how blardy marvellous its all been so that they decide they will do it too so I get the chance to provide feedback on them too

OP posts:
laweaselmys · 17/12/2008 21:12

I hate getting feedback - because even when it's a tiny little thing that I know I do and that I shouldn't and should improve on, I've been sneakily hoping I was getting away with!! Don't worry, you'll get over it. Especially if you start making the changes and realise you can improve - always a self-esteem boost

moondog · 17/12/2008 21:16

OMFG
I can't cope with more crap after AFC and KSF

emma1977 · 17/12/2008 21:16

Its well and truly in the NHS already. It really is arse.

moondog · 17/12/2008 21:17

I'll keep v v quiet in work in hope they don't notice me then.

believer07 · 17/12/2008 21:21

Are you perfect then?

tumpyfairygodmother · 17/12/2008 21:25

I'm not perfect ! is anyone

OP posts:
StealthPolarBear · 17/12/2008 21:29

Yes it's in the NHS, luckily I have escapred so far.
AfC and KSF have ground me down, I agree

believer07 · 17/12/2008 21:30

£10 notes always grease the wheels nicely.

themoon66 · 17/12/2008 21:36

Moondog - I'm in NHS too and I have managed to avoid all that appraisal/supervision/KFS crap by keeping my head down. Once you sign up for just one 'mandatory' training day, they've got your name. Hide.

tinseltwiddler · 17/12/2008 21:37

Oh no! NHS here too and have also just got through appraisal fiasco filling in all my KSF profile.
Hate it so much.
Shudder at the idea of 360 degree feedback and know I'm way too passive to say what I really think about anyone else!

moondog · 17/12/2008 21:41

It's such complete and uter bollocks. The training session on KSF that i stupidly attended could have come straight out of 'The Office'.

tumpyfairygodmother · 17/12/2008 21:44

never mind writing the JAQ form that goes with it all that took months
and the endless, endless, endless mandatory training things you are supposed to go on...........

OP posts:
tinseltwiddler · 17/12/2008 21:45

It's all the twaddle about 'gateways'. 'Are you at a gateway?' I was asked.
I still don't know how to tell. It turned out I was at a gateway, and I came out of the other side unscathed.
Still looks the same here.

tinseltwiddler · 17/12/2008 21:46

I get told off by my boss for doing mandatory training (the clue is in the word surely), then get letters from training telling me I'm not up to date.
Sigh....
