I can't quite believe it. I'm sooooo
DH and I have a business in Hackney and we have to pay rates for car parking. It's £30 a month.
Last month, we changed the direct debit to a new account, all was well, or so we thought.
Get a stinking letter from HBC saying we're overdue with payment, by 2 weeks. Phone up Bank and HBC to try and sort it out. DH speaks to an awful man on phone at council and they have a bit of a shouting match. (not much of one, dh is a quiet man )
Anyway, we then pay the £30 on 8th Dec. Council sends out a court summons on the 11th saying they haven't received payment. It cleared in their account on the 11th. Tough they say, we have to either go to court or pay £90. Dh pays £90.
I'm soo angry, we miss 1 stupid payment due to the bank, the month hasn't even passed before we make payment and we get a COURT SUMMONS!
What the hell!????!!!??

YANBU... I live in Hackney and over the years have had numerous battles with HBC over parking fines and permits... got a court summons this summer for a ticket I never even recieved and it took nearly 6 months to clear up and left me out of pocket not to mention hours of wasted time on the phone and writing letters.. arghhhh!!!

That's better... I am now stepping down off my soap box.

Right! As no-one can be bothered to agree with me how unreasonable this is... except for the lovely wonderful hkz of course.. I'm Flouncing!!!!!!!!

You're right. Hackney Council are subhuman scum.

Ask your local councillor to take it up on your behalf.

In my experience, most boroughs are a nightmare when it comes to late payment of Business Rates. Yes, two weeks late and they can demand the whole bloody year. Calling up and licking arse does help TBH.

but it's not business rates per se...but car park rates. the princely sum of £30. How can they issue a summons in this current economy on exactly 30 days! and how are payments taking 3 days to go into their account. I've got prove on my statement that we paid on the 8th so how can they question that! Arggghhhhhh.. I'm going to the press

Hackney Council are pretty full on. If you're late with your Council Tax they send a letter printed on paper the same red as this !
