I know, they're all nutters, but ...

This person, whose name sounds a bit familiar, tried to add me as a friend, ages ago. His last name is a popular one in a province I used to live in, and his first name is Mike. Maybe I know him. Maybe I don't. He doesn't have a picture up.

So I sent him a message saying, sorry, my memory is crap, do I know you? From where? He sent me back a message saying '?'. Ok. Fine. Whatever. He tried to friend me by accident. Ignore. Move on.

Only now he's done it again. WTF?

I don't think I can block. It's not harrasment or anything, he's probably just trying to add everyone his friends know or something.

When he sent the '?', I sent back 'ok, obviously something got confused here, never mind' or something.

I have accidently sent requests to people that I turn out not to know, in an attempt to track down genuine friends. However, I would explain myself on the email.

Or click on who his other friends are, mutual friends may give you a clue (You dont have to be his "friend" to do this)

Sure, I can totally understand sending accidental requests, by mistake, or because you think you know someone.

Thing is, now, I'm not that interested to know who he is - I can tell he's a moron! (And, odds are, if we have people in common, it will confirm to me that he's from the province I used to live in - but not if I know him.)

See who his friends are, pick the person you know best, and ask them 'who is this guy, he keeps trying to friend me and I don't remember him'.

He probably thinks you are someone else with the same name. Just ignor him.

Some one tried to add me as their friend. She's a freind of a friend type of person, but has always been bloody rude to me in person. No way will I add her!

Who is part of a network I know nothing about (looks like an American high school).

Weird. If it helps I has three friend requests last week from people I didn't know (all from Thailand or similar), and I've set it so peole who aren't my friends can only see a minimum amount of info about me so I don't know why they thought it was a good idea to ask me.

Hmmm, but Lynette, my picture is up, and I have my whole name, all four names, up there.

Yeah, it helps to know that FB has lots of strange people on it doing silly things ...

NotQuiteCockney, whatever you do, don't accept him. It sounds to me that his is a fake profile (maybe set up by a company) to try to friend people in an attempt to get personal information...

I have had that before in the beginning while I first joined FB (and it really causes you to question your memory! LOL!) and I flat refused to accept anyone who I don't know. I figured that if I mean that much, they will message me with an explanation. But there are 'scams' like that about on FB so be careful!

You can block anyone, whether they've requested you've be friends or not. I have a few people on my list of those blocked, like ex's new gf

In the top right hand corner of the screen, click on Settings, then Privacy settings. At the bottom is the block facility

Also set your profile to the private setting so only friends can view it.

I don't mind people seeing my profile, this guy isn't on the same network as me (at least not when I've seen him) and I don't have anything very personal on my profile anyway (no address, nothing that interesting).

I'd just ignore him. You've asked for clarification of how you "know" him, he's not being forthcoming, there are some dodgy people on there, so just ignore him.

Wouldn't lose any sleep over it....
