I have PG hormones but her comment got me all irate yesterday so thought I would have a rant.

She has just had her house decorated and had a lovely wooden floor put down ,so I went up yesterday and ohhhed and ahhed then I said "what about the dog are you worried he may scratch it?"

"No he can't scratch this "

"Oh its just that D (my friend) has the same floor and her dog has scratched a bit of it"

So her eyebrown shot up and she used the most patronising tone you could think of (times a 100) and said
"No ,you see what she will have is laminate this costs almost a thousand pounds so there is no way she has this"

(she dosen't even know my friend)

I told her it was the same and she nearly blew a blood vessel insisting it wasn't.

FFS Mrs Bucket reigns supreme.

Laugh when the dog does destroy it..

georgiemum · 15/12/2008 12:41

sneak in a little chisel and knock out little dog-claw sized chunks when she isn't looking.

VinegarTitsTheSeasonToBeJolly · 15/12/2008 12:42

Maybe she was annoyed that you even mentioned the dog. Why did you?

YANBU shes a snob and a fule..

Our wooden floor (american black walnut and costing an absolute fortune ... ahh those pre credit crunch days....) scratches to buggery

I wish I had laminate [artfully aranges ikea rug.. again]

ComeWhineWithMe · 15/12/2008 12:43

Ohhh I know I sound like a loon but if you heard the way she spoke .

prettybutterfly · 15/12/2008 12:44

Sounds like you were trying to burst her bubble a bit.

VinegarTitsTheSeasonToBeJolly · 15/12/2008 12:45

tbh i wouldnt have said anything about your friends dog scratching her floor, it sounds like you burst her bubble

I can understand why she might have got defensive actually, there she is proudly showing off her floor and you come out with a negative about the dog

ComeWhineWithMe · 15/12/2008 12:45

I don't know as it bounded towards me with its nails clipping on the floor she shouted at it to go to the kitchen so I just assumed thats where it was staying from now on, she never usually cares when it tries to kill say hello to me.

ComeWhineWithMe · 15/12/2008 12:46

Well maybe ,but I was telling her how lovely it looked before I asked about the dog .

Still think she was snobby though.

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 15/12/2008 12:46

We have solid hardwood floors and the dog has scratched the shit out of it just by walking on it, not cos he's Cujo or anything. In our last house we had laminate which looked the same shitey perfection the day we moved out as when we fitted it 5 years earlier.

You will have the last laugh.

ComeWhineWithMe · 15/12/2008 12:48

I don't want her dog to scratch it ,because she has worked hard on it I just wish she would stop looking down her nose at everyone else .

OP posts:
mysterymoniker · 15/12/2008 12:49

how does she know what your friend can/can't afford by way of flooring?

crokky · 15/12/2008 12:49

I wouldn't have said anything about the dog scratching the floor. That might have made her feel defensive.

But it is funny to assume that other people can't afford what she can afford! If nobody else could afford this floor, it wouldn't be manufactured!

prettybutterfly · 15/12/2008 12:50

You said 'Oh it's lovely! Your dog's going to fuck it up you know - I know this cos my mate has exactly the same thing.'

ComeWhineWithMe · 15/12/2008 12:52

Ok I shouldn't have said about the dog but I wasn't been horrid just not thinking will go grovel and buy her some dog nail clippers vases .

VinegarTitsTheSeasonToBeJolly · 15/12/2008 12:55

She may well be a snob who looks down her nose, i dont know her so i cant say,

but you come across as a bit mean, i think you meant to burst her bubble and it sounds like you have deeper issues with her

ComeWhineWithMe · 15/12/2008 13:00

But VT I didn't burst her bubble on purpose ,yes after reading this it was thoughtless but I didn't sit there and think
"right madame let's shit all over your house" it is more foot in mouth syndrome than anything else.

I thought what she said was snobby she is probbaly in work now telling everyone what a cow I am for saying what I did.

You don't know my sister and you don't know me I don't have any deep issues with her ,she is my sister and I love her and I think we are allowed to annoy each other some times .

i too would have mentionned dog. maybe she'd get a rug(if in main room) or runner (if hall) where the dog will be passing to protect it.

but lol.

she's a bit of a fudd.

spending all that money on wooden flooring with a dog
