go out to the works Xmas party on Friday night??

I have an issue with this for 2 reasons-

  1. if you are too sick to work you are too sick to party
  2. it was a virussy-type thing so could easily pass to other colleaugues and our dept is decimated by sickness abscence at the mo

Be gentle with me < puts tin hat on >

if vomit bug you need 48hrs away...
Could he that?

dingdongmerrilyonpie · 15/12/2008 12:10

I agree, and personally I'd be too embarresed to show up. Some people have no shame though.

poshwellies · 15/12/2008 12:11

Totally agree with you AF.

Depends what they off for. They shouldnt go if ill with virus or something. But with something else, for example had minor op or something, socializing at a table wont do then any harm. This happened to me, had an operation so off for few days, but my boss begged me to come on leaving do for colleague. It is possible they dont want to share the details of why they off

Poledra · 15/12/2008 12:15

Kind if depends why you're off. I remember seeing another thread from someone who was going for elective knee surgery so couldn't work but would have been able to go to the works dinner as she would be sitting down all the time. HOWEVER, if we're talking about a virus/cold/D&V, definitely agree with Anyfucker.

Poledra · 15/12/2008 12:16

X-post, Orangehead

KatieDD · 15/12/2008 12:16

Blimey, I wouldn't have the cheek personally.

Monkeyblue · 15/12/2008 12:17

They are taking the piss

If your to ill for work your to ill to then go to the works party

Talk about rubbing your nose in it

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 15/12/2008 12:18

depends entirely on what they've been off ill with -as others have said.

I know for sure what they were off with, because I was the one who sent her home on Weds.

It was this bad cold/feeling like shit/lethargy bug (no vomiting AFAIK).

I don't want to post any more details as could possibly be identifying, just wanted a consensus to see if IABU.

aha - in light of your last post YANBU at all.

I did have in mind posts on here where people have had a miscarriage and called in sick with "virussy thing" rather than divulging the actually reason (for example)

orangehead · 15/12/2008 12:26

Well then yes YANBU
