I am so so pissed off-we have no money and now no bed for DS.

Oh you poor thing. I was very afraid that the same thing was going to happen when I recently bought some beds from BedWorld, as they took forever to deliver. I was convinced they were stringing me along.

I'm not sure what to suggest really. I wonder if CAB would be able to help?

In the mean time, could you get an inflatable bed for your DS? Maybe even one from Freecyle/GumTree/Preloved etc?

In fact, could you perhaps get a proper bed from one of those websites??

oh no, that is bad news

as far as I am aware you're right, there isn't any extra protection from switch cards.

have you spoken to the administrators to see what the plan is regarding outstanding orders?

meanwhile, try freecycle for a bed?

bigspender30 · 14/12/2008 14:42

thanks all for your suggestions. I feel a bit disheartened and so annoyed at myself for not paying by visa. You live and learn

Sorry for you, it's really bad.

flixx · 14/12/2008 18:36

bigspender, Where abouts are you.

I have single pine bed and matress that you could have for you DS if you like. Its in good condition, we're only getting rid because we need bunkbeds.

I don't want any money or anything, just know how hard things are sometimes

nancy75 · 14/12/2008 18:39

heard a solicitor talking about this on the radio the other day. when was your bed due to be delivered? if it was soon there is a chance it maybe at their warehouse/dc waiting to go out for delivery, short version of what the guy said is that if the item has been allocated to you (idealy has your name and/or address on it) then it is yours, you have to ring the administrators and tell them you are going to collect it. its worth a try?

bigspender30 · 14/12/2008 19:14

thanks for all your kind messages. Flixx-that is so nice of you. I have ordered another bed from Dreams today on visa card but thank you so much for your kind offer. Nancy 75, I am in Scotland and the company is in Somerset so I can't actually physically go and collect it. I am going to contact the administrators anyway to see what they say. Daft question but how do I contact them-is it best putting it in writing?

nancy75 · 14/12/2008 19:17

ring then follow up with a letter i would guesswhen was it due to be delivered and when did the company go bust?

bigspender30 · 14/12/2008 19:45

company went bust on Friday 12th December. I didn't have a delivery date but had been contacting the company by phone and email to chase it for the last 2 weeks as delivery is well overdue

nancy75 · 14/12/2008 19:51

their website is still up and running, which is odd as it should have something about being in administration (if i am looking at the right sight) i would ring first thing tomorrow to find out whats going on. ask for number of distribution centre/warehouse and ring them to see if your bed is there, if it is tell them you are arranging for a courier to collect it. if it has your name on it anywhere it is yours, it is not an asset of the company, make sure they know you know your rights!

bigspender30 · 14/12/2008 19:55

i said the same thing to my DH today-it is their website and they are still advertising for January deals etc.
Any other websites I should post on to warn people? Have posted on moneysavingexpert but if any of you post on other forums please spread the word that discountfurnituredirect have ceased trading. Dont want anyone else getting stung.
Nancy75, I will call tomorrow. Do the Adminsitrators go in straight away and will they answer the phone?

OP posts:
nancy75 · 14/12/2008 19:59

not an expert but i would imagine the administrators will have been inplace before any announcement was made. its their job to answer the phone and sort out the people that are owed stock/money. from what i know you will probably struggle to get money back but you might get the actual bed, i would advise making a pest of yourself!

ib · 14/12/2008 20:05

Do contact CAB as I think lots of distance selling things say that the contract is not final until they've dispatched, so you may get your money right back.

Is it in liquidation or administration? If the latter can continue trading.

bigspender30 · 14/12/2008 20:12

The answerphone message says they have ceased trading. I will phone up tomorrow and see if anyone answers.

OP posts:
nancy75 · 15/12/2008 21:11

did you manage to get through to anyone?

bigspender30 · 15/12/2008 22:04

no but will keep trying!thanks for asking!

OP posts:
bigspender30 · 16/12/2008 13:22

I called TRading Standards who are going to call me back with the details of the Administrators. i have to complete a form but unlikely to get any money back she said.

OP posts:
aidansyummymummy · 16/12/2008 13:41

when trading standards call you back make sure you tell them that the website appears to still be taking orders.

bigspender30 · 16/12/2008 14:43

I told the woman at Trading Standards about the website-she has contacted the Trading Standards office down south to make them aware of that. Wouldn't want any other suckers to lose their money like me.
