.............and family in their cards to me. My family have names that were given to them. Yes I have 3 children but it is not difficult to write thier names. I always write them in all cards to the family. Also why put ...and family when you have used the comuter to print out the internal bit of your card . Maybe I shouldn't have given them names. It also seems to be my own extemded family that does it.

Sorry I know it doesn't seem big in the grand scheme of things but it really does irritate me.

Are all your names easy to spell etc? If yes, I don't think there is much point saying Dear X and family - might as well not bother with the card in the first place.

roundcornvirgin · 13/12/2008 14:08

Wouldn't bother me at all.

blametheparents · 13/12/2008 14:11

I know what you mean about the spelling issue.
I have 3 friends with a child called Isabelle, but I can never rememeber which spelling belongs to which chils, Isobel, Isabelle etc!
Better to out 'and family' than to spell a name wrong.

xmas cards are my pet hate
I cannot abide writing them out...bit like ironing to me

PuppyMonkeyNuts · 13/12/2008 14:12

This is why I stopped sending Christmas cards in 2006. What a silly thing to get irritated about.

Twiglett · 13/12/2008 14:13

People do it because they can't remember your children's names.

I suggest you get over it, because it's going to happen to you too at some stage and anyway at least you got a card from them.

JumpingJingleBellsDizzy · 13/12/2008 14:16

I hate writing cards have only sent 1 so far because she's in Canada, other 'away' friends will get an ecard.

My boys have hard to spell names so most put the boys or family. Doesn't bother me at all? Much worse things they could do.

A friend stopped 'doing' Christmas years ago. She goes on a picnic Christmas day (in the UK too)

ChristmasFairySantAsSLut · 13/12/2008 14:29

well...maybe the person writing the card has got hundreds to do...can easily happen...and people don't always have time , but don't want to be impolite by NOT sending a card...
tbh....I have read several such unappreicative messages such as this on MN recently, and it makes me wonder why anyone even bothers anymore...can't get it fecking right anyway....

amerryscot · 13/12/2008 14:31

Can't it just be a pleasure to receive a card - to know that they were thinking of you? Is it really necessary to criticise the sender. They would really be better off not sending a card at all, it seems.

tootyflooty · 13/12/2008 14:40

my friend stopped writing all my kids names and also only signed her card from the family since her 16 year old daughter died, this is why I only do the same in her card so she doesn't have to see her dd1 missed.I also receive cards which just say who they are from and not to anybody on the inside.I hate writing cards and although I start with good intentions of writing personal messages usually end up just signing from , although i do list all our names.I think it is just nice to know someone thought enough of you to bother to send the card. You can always use it as a gift tag next year !!

MrsGokWan · 13/12/2008 14:44

OK I'm obviously being unreasonable so will slink off quietly and go do some housework.

Cheers folks.

my sister has 6 children and always writes everyones names in all of the cards she sends out and as such expects everyone to do the same back to her

I hate doing cards as it takes so long especially when there is a big family but i guess at least i have people that i can write cards to.
