At school a parent is selling this for £1 a bag to raise money for charity. It is just some porridge oats or similar I think, in a pretty bag. Of course my DS is desperate to have some because he thinks it is real. However, I feel a little bit blackmailed into giving to this charity by using children in this way. He has even said he will use what pennies he has in his piggy bank but of course he doesnt realise it is all a con for charity. Should I go against what I believe and give him the £1 anyway? I do like to donate to charity but not if I feel my hand is being forced.

YANBU for not wantging to buy it when you can make it yourself which is what I usually do but YABU for describing it as a con. It is a nice way to raise a bit of money for charity.

Lol

NotsoHoHoHO · 12/12/2008 13:07

island I agree it is a nice way to raise money for charity but feel parents will feel pressurised by selling at school. Con was probably too strong a word.

it's someone making something to sell for charity, hardly a con.

don't buy it if you don't agree with it, i'm sure ds will cope!

good idea to make your own.

toomanyshoes · 12/12/2008 13:11

It's a pound, it will make him happy and a charity will benefit - I'd just get it if I were you. Might feel differently if it wasn't such a small amount of money. Don't think yabu exactly, just don't think its a big deal

NotsoHoHoHO · 12/12/2008 13:14

If you don't already have oats ang glitter in (or you buy the sugar stuff as in that recipie) then it will end up costing more than £1 anyway.

toomanyshoes · 12/12/2008 13:27

right, then just buy it. See, decision made for you!

NotsoHoHoHO · 12/12/2008 13:27

Good point!

NotsoHoHoHO · 12/12/2008 14:34

You are right. I think it is probably cos I dont like the woman who is selling it. She really upset me once. Dont think I have ever forgotten.
