"Well sorry love but you want to watch your language" ???

Was walking through the park to fetch DD from school today. I walked past a man walking an alsatian on a lead, it growled and jumped up at me, he yanked it down, then it lunged forward and bit my thigh twice. I was wearing thick tights and a skirt over jeans, and it has still left bruises on my leg.

The man just carried on walking so I called after him. OK, the 'fucking' was unnecessary but I was so shocked and shaken, it just slipped out. He proceeded to tell me off for swearing and said I 'must have smelled of something that set her off' , 'didn't appear to be in agony', and 'need to get over it'.

I just walked past! Even when it growled ad jumped I just carried on walking - I am used to dogs (DP has a mahoosive alsatian/newfoundland cross), confident with them and not at all scared of them.

It would have drawn blood on a child's face. I shudder to think.... and I was too shocked and angry at his reaction to take a photo of them. I was just shaking and almost in tears, not so much from the dog itself as sheer rage at the way he spoke to me.

If my german sheperd did that to someone... well. Cripes. Are you OK? Do they walk there alot? Was it a grab or a bite?

silverfrog · 11/12/2008 19:13

agree, am

you could still report the incident, maybe? with evidence of injuries. I can't believe that he would just walk on - he can't have failed t notice his dog biting someone!

AnarchyInAManger · 11/12/2008 19:15

Never seen him before, and I walk through at least twice every day.

It was more of a grab I suppose - it went for my leg twice trying to get a proper hold and tried to shake, but my thigh was too big for it to get its jaws round properly. Had it got my hand/arm I think it would have done real damage.

I'm ok thanks - just appalled and a bit shaken still.

People like him give dogs and their owners a bad reputation. It would be good to contact the dog warden with details incase it happens to someone else.

rislip · 11/12/2008 19:15

Oh my god, you should of reported that man to the police. I can't believe that he kept on walking. I hope you're okay, how shocking.

I own a german shepherd and I'm so narked that irresponsible owners wreck it for all us responsible owners. Savage or unpredictable dogs should be muzzled.

tiredsville · 11/12/2008 19:16

Using the word "fucking" is completely necessary in this circumstances. I would have gone berserk! You should have reported him.

Desiderata · 11/12/2008 19:16

How awful were the tights ...?

It may have a bearing

Lauriefairyonthetreeeatscake · 11/12/2008 19:17

I would contact the police if I were you. He may regularly walk his dog round that area and be easily identifiable.

Twats like him should not own dogs.

tiredsville · 11/12/2008 19:18

Infact, please be report it, like you said it could be a child's face next.

CuddlyUnderTheMistletoe · 11/12/2008 19:21

That is apalling!
People who have just been bitten by a dog are excused a slip of language if you ask me.

His behaviour was irresponsible - as you say had it been a child the consequences could have been horrific.

needmorecoffee · 11/12/2008 19:23

report it. Next time it could be a child. The dog is dangerous.

AnarchyInAManger · 11/12/2008 19:23

My mum is coming over now to babysit while I go to the police station to have my wobbly thigh photographed [wince]

Please tell the dog warden. The thing that bothers me is how cavalier the owner was about it. His lack of concern means he will not put any thought into what might have set his dog off or how to prevent it. The next time the dog may hurt someone seriously and have to be put down, while it's victim has to live with scarring and disfigurement.

needmorecoffee · 11/12/2008 19:27

shave your legs quick!
Hope the guy is caught.

lingle · 11/12/2008 19:38

Thanks for reporting it!

(and no YANBU)

GoodWilfToAllMN · 11/12/2008 19:43

I'd have thought the correct response from you would in fact to have beaten the twat around the head with whichever iron bar was closest to hand.

prettybutterfly · 11/12/2008 19:54

yanbu. But who would you report it to, and what would you say?

thisisyesterday · 11/12/2008 19:57

i would report it to the police. you have been attacked by an animal.
next time it could be a child.

georgimama · 11/12/2008 20:00

I really don't think you should have shouted obscenities at a complete stranger. Obviously it was out of order for the dog to bite you, and it probably shouldn't be allowed out, but by swearing at him you just set the whole situation up for conflict.

I can see I am in a minority of one here but you still shouldn't have sworn at him.

NorbertDentressAngel · 11/12/2008 20:07

georgimama -don't you think that its quite a natural reaction , in a state of shock, to swear?

lingle · 11/12/2008 20:07

Snort!

tiredsville · 11/12/2008 20:09

I think even the queen in those circumstances would swear!

juicyjolly · 11/12/2008 20:10

As for shouting obsceneties.......so what! A dog had just tried to eat her leg ffs.......besides the dog trying to chew on her leg, the man was an ignortant, arragont pratt, who didnt have the decency to stop and acknowledge what had happened and apologised.

The Op had every right to respond in this way! The shock alone would be enough to make you react this way....or whatever way it 'just comes out' iyswim.

moston · 11/12/2008 20:11

how shoking. I am glad you have reported it

Doodle2U · 11/12/2008 20:13

You swore in front of his dog!
