bought a gift voucher for a restaurant over the phone the other day and recieved it in the post today. It says on it that its only valid for 2months from date of purchase. This wasnt mentioned when i was purchasing the voucher and by the time xmas has passed there will only be just over a month on the voucher. Feel its a bit cheeky to put such a short expiry date on a £50 voucher i said £50 for. What do you think

YANBU - they should have mentioned it.
Ask if they can reissues it so you can at least have 2 months from Christmas

If there needs to be an expiry date on a gift voucher i personally would expect it to be at least a year to be honest. Its not like this was some promotion where i bought a £50 voucher for £25. I paid face value. I want to ask for refund and get a voucher for elsewhere. Is this unreasonable.

I don't think you're unreasonable but I think it's legal so there's not much you can do except ask or complain. If it's a local restaurant and they won't refund you could suggest you'll go to the local paper with the story - v.bad publicity for them.

YANBU, at the restaurant I work at, we don't put expiry dates on for gifts. It's very silly as presumably they'll have a rule that vouchers cannot be used during December ? lol

I hate dates on gift vouchers, if you've paid money to them for something why should it have a date on it? They've made £50 if you don't get round to using it in the time limit. I don't even agree with a year/ 18 month limits.
