to be so depressed at the state of 'the masses' in my town?

I freely admit I look grim first thing in the morning, but would not dream of leaving the house looking that way.

Yet when I do go out, I am surrounded by people with greasy hair, stained shell suits, ill-fitting mismatched polyester 'sportswear', covered in spots etc. I am not a snob and understand that some people are short of money, but polyester football shirts (in size 22 plus) probably cost more and certianly are more offensive and less flattering than a plain black cotton t-shirt. Why do people do it??

I love reading threads like this - people get so worked up! it's like the OP is fishing to see how many replies and all the fishes are biting!

It's obvious they made their statement to wind people up and yes they are probably a troll!
But where would mumsnet be without threads like this?

This fish is biting too and my reply is that with 2 kids under three, I love being part of the 'masses'!

P.S You are being judgey, snobby, unreasonable and provocative!
but we all secretly thank you for it, for mumsnet would be boring otherwise

Nope, sixspotburner - not being disingenuous.
Just pointing out that being visually dull is not uniquely a property of the poor.
Far from it indeed.

MrsSeanBean · 05/12/2008 13:28

How about being visually grubby - is that uniquely a property of the poor?

Have you not been reading the "what middle class parents are c* at" thread in chat?

What's class got to do with money? There are people in castles are totally skint whereas many people on 'estates' have every mod-con under the sun!

Do you live in Colchester, op?

MumtoCharlieandLola · 05/12/2008 13:45

I also agree to a point with you, though I wouldn't write about it on here, I have other more important things to worry about.

But, I do object to you picking on people cos they have spots ! I have two at the moment, much to my horror, but at this time of the month, it can't be helped.

Did you know that Sean Bean is a wife beater?

daftpunk · 05/12/2008 13:46

msb; just get all your shopping delivered ...that's what i do

MrsSeanBean · 05/12/2008 13:46

Sean has never beaten me (unless I asked him)

i actually saw an obese person walking along my high street today, it was really quite terrifying. Down with this sort of thing!!

BouncingTinsel · 05/12/2008 13:50

Well I think I look luvverly

YABU very snobby and judgy.

Keep up the good work

MumtoCharlieandLola · 05/12/2008 13:51

Yes, but the problem is I can't be arsed, it just keeps poking through and scaring the children.

Two years olds have such an endearing way of saying "is that a spot on your face mummy "!!

pagwatch · 05/12/2008 13:52

MrsBean

why on earth are you in town anyway!
Do what I do. Housekeeper does the shopping and driver drops me at cafe and collects me when I am ready.

admittedly I do have to speak to the waiting staff but they are usually fairly presentable and being christmas one can carry and orange stuffed with cloves to deal with the more aromatic of my fellow customers.

georgimama · 05/12/2008 13:53

Haven't read thread, I expect you are getting a pasting OP but FWIW I agree with you.

Have just been out on my lunch break, dodging the NEETs who are hogging all the park benches and gobbing in the street, hollering at each other from across the road or texting the person sat right next to them. As well as finding their complete lack of focus offensive to my Protestant work ethic, I actually pity them. What are they doing with their lives? What are their hopes, plans, dreams? They don't appear to have any. It's very sad and probably without a solution.

MrsSeanBean · 05/12/2008 13:54

Mum to C&L - ahhh...tricky buggers those 'raised' ones. Calls for extra really cloying texture (cheap) concealer (sod the tubes from Lancome) and loads of powder.

OP posts:
blueshoes · 05/12/2008 13:55

I agree, MrsSB, it is not a good look.

MrsSeanBean · 05/12/2008 13:56

Well said georgie mama. Yes there are lots of er... 'liberal' MNers on here who don't quite get my point! Don't get me started on gobbing, nave to dodge with the pushchair and disinfect wheels when I get home - yeuchhh!

OP posts:
daftpunk · 05/12/2008 13:57

msb..are you new, don't recco your name?

MrsSeanBean · 05/12/2008 13:58

Hi daftpunk, yes I'm a newbie (on a steep learning curve about what constitutes entertainment!)

I aim to please

OP posts:
georgimama · 05/12/2008 13:59

FFS daftpunk, does it matter?

Obviously every newish poster who dares to post an actual opinion is a troll....

donnie · 05/12/2008 14:00

I do have a problem with polyester sportswear, so no, not unreasonable. Use of the term 'the masses' is very Marxist though - are you a Marxist MSB?
