Can you afford it?

bollockbrain · 04/12/2008 00:21

why not, if you have the money. She is obviously very much loved and part of the family.

ggirlsbells · 04/12/2008 00:23

can I afford it...probably yes

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 04/12/2008 00:29

Well, it's a Christmas present then.

debzmb62 · 04/12/2008 09:32

if the dog isn,t going to be here for much longer i,d maybe get a lovely cheap single quilt and keep the blanket and thin bed as dog might feel better with old stuff and a new bed is maybe not what the dog needs

AnAngelWithin · 04/12/2008 09:42

yes buy it. make her time comfy! thats what I am doing with my dog. shes got a large plastic bed with a duvet in it and a cushion with a fleece blanket on it. I am still buying her a nice new cushion for christmas as hers has gone a bit flat. Shes just had tumours removed from her leg.

ggirlsbells · 04/12/2008 09:48

cheap duvet is a good idea
difficult to bung on the wash though and she's a bit incontinent

JumpingDizzy · 04/12/2008 10:05

A single duvet fits in a washing machine. How would you clean the dog bed?

Have you asked on freecycle? I got a dog bed plus other dog stuff on there...for FREE!!

BellsCarolsNSleighs · 04/12/2008 10:11

get some vet bed.. easy to wash and comfy for them

bollockbrainASSofBETHLEHEM · 04/12/2008 10:44

mine have a double duvet folded over and its very sumptuous. Although they have been prone to chew them on occasion. Can you imagine a utility room with a foot high of fluff, but they all look at you with the 'it wasnt me' face, even with some of the fluff hanging out of their mouths

Lotster · 04/12/2008 10:54

I you do buy it, then remember you've probably spent that amought on a top you only wore about three times once! Your (I'm assuming) old girl will get several hours of comfort a day and you'll feel good.

Duvets are a good idea too, but might not look as nice. My dog kept lying on a sheepskin rug in my bedroom for so long I just gave it to him folded double in his bed, doesn't look the best, but very comfy and warm!

Lotster · 04/12/2008 11:19

If you do buy it, soz.

JumpingDizzy · 04/12/2008 11:33

Yes go on get it, vetbed sounds a good idea.

gagamama · 04/12/2008 11:51

Oh definitely not unreasonable! In my experience, old dogs sleep loads and they're a bit stinky too, bless them, so a nice fresh bed will benefit everyone! Go for it, she deserves it.

Lovesdogsandcats · 04/12/2008 16:55

do it, you will feel all warm inside when you see her snuggly in new bed.

ggirlsbells · 04/12/2008 17:14

right have given her the sheepskin given to dd when she was born
but really want to buy her this

Lovesdogsandcats · 04/12/2008 19:21

omg that is the exact one I bought my old boy last summer. Same company too.

It looks better in the picture. The sides are nowhere near as high as that. The bottom is really thin so I ended up folding a quilt up underneath the cream fleecy bit which defeats the object. Also as I have stone floors downstairs, I had to put newspaper underneath the whole bed in case it got damp.

The only good thing is it is huge and he could spread out nicely in it. Nice and wide.
If you do what I did, and put a quilt under the fleey part it is nice.
But I think you should put a thick folded quilt in the bed you have now, and top with the sheepskin, which you can wash as needed or this bed :
cgi.ebay.co.uk/DOG-BED-PET-CAT-CUSHION-X-X-LARGE-BLUE-WASHABLE_W0QQitemZ200283334520QQcmdZViewItemQQ ptZUKPetSuppliesDogs?hash=item200283334520&trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1296%7C66%3A2%7C65 %3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

Again with sheepskin on top.

let us know what you decide!

ggirlsbells · 04/12/2008 19:26

oh I am glad you said,I won't bother now a sit's the extra padding I want.

I love that one in the link looks big enough for her. She's an abnormally large beardie .

laraeo · 04/12/2008 19:29

Buy the bed. Before I had to put our beagle to sleep (cancer), I bought her the most gorgeous handmade collar & lead from vibrant 60's vintage fabric. When we went on our walks, which grew shorter, she was the most stylish dog in town. Of course, I never told DH how much it cost....
