For the weekend of the 20th and 21st of December, I had booked us, what I thought would be a lovely pre-christmas weekend.
On the 20th we are booked to go to Lapland New Forest - I'm sure you have all herd about that on other threads, I doubt if I will get our money back (£125 down the drain)!!! On the 21st I booked a 3 course breakfast with visit from Santa - they have just phoned and cancelled due to lack of interest.
We (DH, DD6,DD11,DD13 & me) were so looking forward to a great weekend and now the whole 2 days have been wiped out.

How can I salvage this situation???

Have a family chat and see if there are other places the DD'd would like to go to.

Lauriefairycake · 03/12/2008 17:48

ok, but the good news is it may all be closed down and you would get your money back - please say you paid by credit card?

There are so many fantastic suggestions of good grottos on those threads, pick one of those. Or have a magical day in Hyde Park instead (looks beautiful)

smugmarried · 03/12/2008 17:53

Good God, a day at lapland and a 3 course breakfast with the man himself the following day!!!!!!!!!! Think of the money you've saved.

Why dont you donate that money to charity and go to your local garden centre grotto instead. That way, instead of being upset, you can turn the situation round and feel good about youself.

dingdongmerrilyonpie · 03/12/2008 18:07

what a lovely gesture from Alton Towers and well done littlejenkins for bringing it to our attention.

I wanno go!!!!!!!!!

Blinglovin · 03/12/2008 18:09

SmugMarried, your suggest is a bit, well, smug. . dd6, dd11 and dd13 are not going to feel good about themselves through donating the money!

A trip into town with a visit to Santa at one of the big stores and a lovely lunch out somewhere? Where are you? What about a day and early evening to see the Christmas lights?

Littleladyloulou · 03/12/2008 18:11

It's not always about the money though is it smugmarried, it's about creating memories. Perhaps the OP has done local garden centre grottos for years and has saved up to splash out on something a bit different/special this year, we don't know.

Sorry to say it esp if you didn't mean it to but your post does sound a little judgemental.... I think it was the "Good God" plus the exaggerated " and " wot did it

ilovemydog I am reliably informed it is in Luton.

Tas1 · 03/12/2008 18:51

Thanks for all your lovely ideas and support. We are going to have a family pow wow and come up with some alternative ideas.

I was just feeling sorry for myself as I thought I had arranged a great weekend and then it all fell apart within a few hours.

crokky · 03/12/2008 20:19

Re the £125, if I understand it correctly, that#s the entrance fee (?) - could you say you want it back because they cancelled the breakfast and you don't want to go because that isn't happening?

noonki · 03/12/2008 20:33

loads of national trust places are having father christmas,

why not head to one of these, have really nice lunch on one day

and maybe find a dry slope skiiing place or some such winter activity for the other

(sorry I had to laugh at 'herd' as a bad pun!)

morningpaper · 03/12/2008 20:35

Goodness ME you are planning your disasters well in advance

Look up carol services/crib services/garden centres - there will be LOTS on

Are you near to a Centerparcs? You could get a day ticket or go for a weekend?

prettybutterfly · 03/12/2008 20:47

Yanbu. But don't dwell on it! You thought of some cool stuff + now you'll think of some more!

dexter73 · 06/08/2011 18:20

Can you start a new thread and not drag up threads that are years old please.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 06/08/2011 18:20

I wondered why there were all these theme park threads turning up. This is really annoying.

GypsyMoth · 06/08/2011 18:25
