to find a hospital booklet suggesting nurses are wasteful offensive.

The hospital I work in has made a booklet about wasting money in the NHS. It is focused on the amount of money/resources spent on electricity, heating, water etc.

So, all of the pictures depict clinicians (mainly nurses) wasting money. One picture has a dolly bird nurse, with a bedpan full of money. The money is falling into a drain.

No pictures of managers enjoying fat cat lunches, etc are shown.

So AIBU to be offended by this? Should I not bother to wash my hands and spread MRSA to save money? Should I not bother to make sure my patients are nice and warm, comfortable and clean?

Views welcome please.

Did it also have a picture of billions of pounds being flushed down the toilet because that's basically what the NHS have wasted on an IT system that doesn't work properly? And another lot being thrown at PFI schemes that are billions over budget?

Bloody ridiculous isn't it? Completely agree that it is beyond sanctimonious. It's not COCH by any chance is it - just guessing from your name?

reikizen · 03/12/2008 16:21

Oh god, I'd complain on the dolly bird nurse grounds alone. FFS did I wake up in 1976? The amount of money wasted in my Trust is horryfying, most of it on refurbishing perfectly serviceable areas whilst other areas go to hell and random TV screens in strange places. Grrr. Oh and don't forget the Trust Execs offices.

No, but what made me mad was 2 weeks ago a hot tap was running fully. We could not get it to turn off. Phoned estates (this was Friday am).

Back at work Monday am (clinics) and the tap was still running. So hot water down the drain for the whole weekend. How much did that cost?

And don't get me on the IT usless system.

Cheshirekitty now getting chest pain from the stress of working for the NHS!!!!

how utterly pathetic and insulting. and it is treating you like morons.

wingandprayer · 03/12/2008 16:24

Random TV screens round here too - seem to be breeding. Booking in systems apparently, though quite why we need them when exactly the same staff are still sat behind the same desks doing to the same jobs perfectly well is beyond me.

I think a pillow over the face of a patient is much cheaper than care. That way you don't have to waste money on hand washing and heating to keep the patients warm, the NHS would save a fortune and I'm sure you can train nurses how to do it.

YANBU!

YANBU.

I will say that at my GPs we have touch screens to check in and they are brilliant.

We went to A&E about a month ago as DH fell down a few stairs, there are big widescreen TVs telling you how long you are likely to be waiting and showing adverts about washing your hands in that rub stuff.
There was no hand rub stuff in any dispenser.

They are closing the maternity wards in all the hospitals round here due to lack of funds but they can afford huge tvs.
