To think 'was it planned?' is not an acceptable question when you tell someone you're pregnant?

I am married, 30 years old, financially stable and fairly sane...so when telling DH's friends we were happy to announce we were going to have a baby, I did not expect the 'was it planned?' question from one of their wives.

I cannot believe how anyone can think this is an acceptable question to ask anyone!?

I very nearly said 'no' just to see what the response was.

Ggrr...

I was asked this by a rather posh x colleague. I couldn't believe it.....!!

I said, well, I'm 31 and not getting any younger so what do you think??

An answer designed to make her feel she should get a move on herself, very mean of me, not normally so mean, but it was a rude question.

Completely agree with how inappropriate it is.

My parents were absolutely furious when people approached me and asked this question. People generally thought i would plan to have a child when i'm a 'child' myself. I'm 15 and i had my wonderful girl in August.

I don't see it as others people's business. And sure i knew at the time alot of people would be curious to have a gawp at the local teen up the duff, but personally questioning me was just beyond being nosey.

YANBU!!!!

What is it with people and pregnant women? They feel they can ask anything they darn well like .

Would you ask someone you barely know what salary they earned? Whether they were looking for a 'better' job? Do you love your partner????

Yet they feel they can ask any of these type of questions of a pregnant woman!!!!!

I just give vague answers that dont' answer the question at all.

My jaw dropped when I was asked this, especially since I'd been with DH 8 years, married for 2 years and 6 months before, we moved to a family friendly house in a village. I guess people thought I wasn't very maternal.
