I totally agree with you. DH and I are both professionals, earn very good salaries and we have nearly cleared our mortgage after only 8 years. We don't believe in stuffing our house with clutter, we buy DTS clothes at bargain basement prices, shop at Aldi and plan to keep our car which we bought new with cash (£18k) until it falls apart.

I think society would do well to remember the story from the Old Testament about storing during the 7 years of feast so that when the famine comes, you have something to fall back on.

The live today, forget tomorrow mentally that has plagued modern society is just simply irresponsible fiscal, economic, social and political lunacy.

Have just said similar on thread about £100k salaries.
A friend of mine lives in very big house which needs loads still spending on it,has a holiday home abroad they cannot rent out nor sell, and her husband is redundant next week .
They still plan on skiing post xmas, children do every activity going, vast amounts will be spent at xmas.
They have no savings or pension, they have lived above and beyond their means for years.
There apperars to be many many people in same situation.
To quote MP,'numpties' indeed.

If people only bought what they could afford then the prices would be forced down. Companies price things out of any normal persons reach then generously offer to lend you the money to buy them "Just 240 easy monthly payments"

yes indeedy Onager

and obviously even when the shops go bankrupt they will still keep their staff on, no lives will be ruined or homes lost

happy medium anybody?
