to sell the item I just got off freecycle?

I use freecycle a lot. I offer things I dont need/use any more and I accept things that I would find useful. Probably offer as much as I accept.

Today I collected an item that I asked for as it would be handy for me and I will use it.
I just collected it and its in much better condition than I expected, with extras too.

I am very strapped for cash at the moment (arent we all?) and I am selling off as much of our stuff as will make money on ebay and here to try and make a few extra pennies.

If I dont sell it, I will use it and it will be useful but I dont need it and thats the criteria that I am selling off my own stuff on...so....

AIBU to sell on this freecycle item? Could make me about £30...

Oh my Graco (first baby, first mistake) blew away, so it went when he was about 6 weeks old

I have recently discarded the darling emmal. in favour of something that swivels. Will have to sell it I think
but once your child is about 18 months tis no fun to lift and turn!!!

Doobydoo · 26/11/2008 10:22

Thankyou Fightfuaite...I will take a look

TheLadyEvenstar · 26/11/2008 10:31

Flight lol thats why i don't use the emmal very often. Zachary is 14m old and turning into a bit of a lump i must add lol

2point4kids · 26/11/2008 10:36

I have to admit to being a bit of a pramaholic with DS1 as well I had a Graco that went very quickly! then about 10 others!

With DS2 I went for the Bugaboo Bee and nearly 10 months later I still love it and wouldnt swap it for the world so thats my perfect pram

Havent tried the mountain buggy yet though...

I'm to admit it but I'm selling things that I have gotten for free. BUT, it is only because we need to make up our mortgage payment this month. We have already effectivley 'cancelled' xmas in our house this year so no, I dont think yabu. If you really are that skint then so what?

beanieb · 26/11/2008 12:21

YANBU.

ToThrottleablackbird · 26/11/2008 12:21

BTW, Im not asking for things just to sell on, its things we have been given in the past.

NCbirdy · 26/11/2008 12:25

I love love love MN

See we can all fall out and then bond over prams - it is great

I loved my Emmal too, it was handed down to me by someone else who thought that everyone should have one - I whole heartedly agreed!

TheLadyEvenstar · 26/11/2008 12:48

NC, mine was given to me as well and I would not be without it. When we go out for the day it is brill you can get so much under it can't you!

I couldn't believe when I had ds2 just how much prams had changed from when I had ds1...mind you 9yr age gap i should have expected some changes lol.

NCbirdy · 26/11/2008 13:20

I thought I had finished with prams etc and got rid of it only to be pg again a few years later I had to use a silver cross thing (a modern one) and it was a nightmare. I cannot beleive how much difference there is between one pram and another. In my naivity I had thought they were all that good!

I used to use it for country walks too as it was good and sturdy but really absorbed all the bumps - and it went on busses fine and it had a child seat and ... Perhaps I should have kept it for nostalgia

Flightattendant4 · 26/11/2008 14:13

Yes I thought they were all fine till I actually tried a few. Some are made so cheaply and without real babies and mums in mind.
The Emmaljunga prams are fantastically built, but weigh a ton. I love just stroking the chassis as it is like a well made car or motorbike.

I refuse to out a small baby in anything without air tyres now, as they spend half their lives flinging their little arms in the air otherwise with every little bump...it makes me sad!

One thing I don't like about the Emmals though is the fabric. It's kind of too waterproof and industrial. I like a bit of cotton and fluff myself. But you can use a footmuff.

Gesslein are the ones for fabric...Ohhh yes

I have a dilemma, ladies. Have got to sell at least two of the following:

Jane Nomad (but want to keep frame to use with Auto carrycot if I ever have another baby - might have to get over this!!)

Teutonia Mistral (very well made but too heavy now, not swivel)

Gesslein whatever they're called - grey and cream brocade, I cannot part with this...

Emmaljunga Duo combi

Helllp. I don't know what to do...I am keeping the MB and the Easylife as they are super useful. And a cheapo triumph for the back of the car.

Flightattendant4 · 26/11/2008 14:14

Btw - in the spirit of the thread - I bought all of them, from ebay. I had an old techno from freecycle, which had no hood and was well used. I'll chuck it when I've finished with it, or pass it on...

NCbirdy · 26/11/2008 14:31

lol at stroking the chassis

Perhaps you could rehome te Emmal here for my nostalgia cupboard

I gave my graco double on FC, it was really nice to see it the next day going into Asda cafe complete with twin dds

FA4, personally I think you may need some help - pram collecting is certifiable you know

Flightattendant4 · 26/11/2008 16:26

Need one of those boggle eyed emoticons here

I know, it is a bit weird. mind you there are some very respectable old ladies around with about 68 Silver Crosses cluttering up their house. we are just the next generation of appreciators, lol

emwi · 26/11/2008 17:29

Check the terms of your freecycle site and if no restrictions on selling YANBU. I have given stuff away on Freecycle that I could have Ebayed but really couldn't be bothered - the important thing is keeping it out of landfill. TBH I'd be pleased if someone in need of cash could make £30 out of something I'd thrown away.

boogiewoogie · 26/11/2008 20:35

Sorry to highjack but freecycled related.
Things which bug me about Freecycle is not only when the recipient only intends to sell or you have replies that go something along the lines of "My friend of a friend of a friend needs this and can't get this where they are etc..."

Also when someone offering an item posts a taken message within minutes. Some of us have jobs and are not chained to the computer.

Just out of interest, how often do you receive an item that you have requested for on Freecycle? Or is it that people don't really post "Received" messages when they get what they asked for?

wotulookinat · 27/11/2008 09:50

Our Freecycle group has scrapped received messages to cut down the amount of emails that people were getting. Now the person who offered the item just puts up a taken message, saying who got the item.
